Here were 10 observations from the three games I viewed:
#1 Chandler freshman group have some nice potential studs to help their varsity next year.
#2 Two freshman from Chandler stood out in the freshman game.
Jaseim Wallace PG 5’8 2023 Chandler
-A jet quick scoring PG has a tight handle. He is reportedly a stud football player. He is a ball hawk on defense and has that football toughness and track type of speed to move his feet laterally.
Sean White SG 6’0 2023 Chandler
-A lefty scorer who is a good shooter. He can get into the lane and score it through contact. He is a good passer and plays tough on the ball defensively.
#3 Two sophs stood out from Chandler in the JV game.
Kevin Sias SG 5’10 2023 Chandler
-Long and lean guard can score from all 3 levels. He is a fluid athlete who gets to the basket. He can shoot it from deep plus likes the mid-range pull-up. He has a good hesi and uses his speed to make plays for himself and others.
Tyson Wheeler PF 6’4 2023 Chandler
-A long rebounder who can score it inside. He is a tad raw but uses his length, height and athleticism to score it inside. Nice upside for the freshman.
#4 One freshman stood out from Perry in the freshman game.
Ben Egbo SF 6’3 2023 Perry
-A tad raw but super athletic and plays with a high motor. He gets into the lane with very few steps but he can improve his handle long term. His shooting stroke looks decent and he can make tough off balanced contested shots. He rebounds in and out of his area and gets many deflections/steals.
#5 One Soph stood out from Perry in the JV game.
Eli Burland PG 5’9 2022 Perry
-His feel for the game is high and is very crafty, changes speeds smartly and comes with deep range. He has an easy stroke and gets it off quickly. His IQ is very high and is a good advanced passer. He may be the best passer in the program.
Varsity game:
#6 Chandler and Perry can both make deep playoff runs.
#7 If Perry wants to make a deep run, they will need more consistent play from all their guards.
#8 Duke Brennan makes life hard for opposing teams. He had 29 points and 18 rebounds in this game.
#9 Chandler’s front line of Riley, Masi and Broady are all very long and active.
#10 Here were the Varsity standouts:
Chandler 70 Perry 66
Isaiah Broady SF 6’6 2021 Chandler
-A long and athletic shooter. He has a nice shooting stroke from the 3pt line and seems to be money from the FT line. He gets out on the break well and plays way above the rim. He has become a very good passer and his defense keeps improving.
Nick Riley C 6’7 1/2 2021 Chandler
-A true 5-man with massive hands and long arms. He works hard inside the paint and scores it efficiently near the hoop. Coach said he is near 75% FG, which is probably one of the best in state. He gobbles up all rebounds in area and has nice upside.
Riley’s toughness will be helpful in the playoffs.Mekhi Mason PG 6’2 2022 Chandler
-A bigger PG who plays on or off the ball. He is a long defender on the ball using his length and quickness. He is very poised and under control vs pressure. He has a sweet shooting stroke with deep range. He can get into the lane and score it with advanced moves and post up. He is a very good passer when he’s given the opportunity and had a big 13 assist outing recently.
Carson Kelly PG 5’7 2021 Chandler
-A jet quick scoring guard is a blur in the open court. He is tough and fearless and can take it deep into the lane and score it through contact despite his size. He has a nice floater game and is skilled from the perimeter. He is good off the catch from the 3pt line and has a polished pull-up off the dribble from mid-range.
Duke Brennan C 6’9 2021 Perry
-A strong true low post scorer. He is a rugged rebounder and plays physically deep in the paint. He comes with a huge motor and essentially outworks his opposition. He has good hands and catches tough passes in traffic. He just keeps coming at you with hook shots, floaters and truly dominating the glass on the offensive end.
Dylan Anderson PF 6’11 2022 Perry
-A highly skilled forward who has many skills to like. He has beautiful shooting form with range from mid to the 3pt line. He is a good two-handed rebounder and keeps the ball high with his 7’3 wingspan. He is a very good passer and he impressed me with how he defended out in space versus the guards.
