The 6’3″ Love can now add one more special accomplishment to that list; a McDonald’s All-American. Love was selected as one of the 24 players who will participate in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game, which will be held on April 1 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
The official rosters were revealed on Thursday afternoon, but Love was notified of his achievement at practice by his coach Justin Tatum and in front of his teammates, who celebrated wildly after the announcement was made.
“It’s just a blessing,” Love said. “I just want to thank God, all of my trainers and my coaches who helped me along the way. I just want to thank all of my teammates for putting me in a position to make this a real thing.”
Love is a five-star prospect who is rated No. 1 in the Prep Hoops Missouri Class of 2020 rankings. He enjoyed a big summer while playing for Brad Beal Elite in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. He also excelled at several USA Basketball Camps over the course of the past two years.
After leading the Cadets to a berth in the Class 5 state championship game last season, Love is enjoying a brilliant senior season. He is currently averaging 27 points a game against a rugged national schedule. He has been on an offensive rampage in the past week in leading the Cadets to road victories at Chaminade, East St. Louis, Cardinal Ritter and Hazelwood Central.
Love had 22 points and nine rebounds against Chaminade, but he was just warming up as he scored 42 points at East St. Louis, 40 points at Cardinal Ritter and 35 points at Hazelwood Central.
Love joins a big list of players from the Show-Me State to be selected as McDonald’s All-Americans. He joins players such as Steve Stipanovich (DeSmet, 1979), Joe Kleine (Slater, 1980), Anthony Peeler (Kansas City Paseo, 1988), Ryan Robertson (St. Charles West, 1995), Derrick Hood (Kansas City Central, 1995), Loren Woods (Cardinal Ritter, 1996), Larry Hughes (CBC, 1997), JaRon Rush (Kansas City Pembroke Hill, 1998), David Lee (Chaminade, 2001), Tyler Hansbrough (Poplar Bluff, 2005), Bradley Beal (Chaminade, 2011), Jayson Tatum (Chaminade, 2016), and Michael Porter, Jr. (Father Tolton, MO Nathan Hale, WA)
