The Tuesday Night Stars
Tuesday Night offers outstanding basketball around the state of Minnesota on a regular basis and has been for years. Here are the Tuesday Night Stars (six guys because we use five for everything else).
***Before we get started, these are all performances I was told about through text message, direct message on twitter, twitter mentions, emails, or even the occasional facebook messenger comment. If you feel somebody should be honored let me know and we will get that on twitter and/or in this article.
Kenny Dailey of North St. Paul. With a new line-up and some guys back healthy competing, the Polars have rebounded from a rough start against a very tough schedule to win four of five games. Last night the Polars defeated a Wayzata line-up (that had all their guys) 70-60. Dailey, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, had 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals in a huge win. Dailey is described as a scorer who is aggressive playing the passing lanes defensively. Can score from three and finishes well at the rim.
Jarrell Jacobs of Cass Lake-Bena. In an important 87-79 Cass Lake-Bena win over Deer River, 6-foot-2 senior guard Jarell Jacobs broke a school record by scoring 57 points in last night’s game. Jacobs was the Northland Conference MVP last year and is on his way to being the MVP of that league again. The Panthers improved to 7-2 on the year with last night’s win.
Bruce Lockwood of Shakopee. Shakopee ended a seven game losing streak to Prior Lake last night with an impressive 8-63 team victory. It was a balanced effort but a guy who was tremendous for them was senior Bruce Lockwood. Nick Katona started on Dawson Garcia but then Lockwood took over and together with a double on the wing, and a double inside, the Sabers were able to limit Dawson to 4-5 less baskets than his average. Also Lockwood moved hard off screens to score a good part of his 16 points.
Luke Strazzanti of Chaska. This summer when Chaska was playing in the Breakdown Summer Showcase events you could see Luke was starting to emerge as a potential go to scoring option for the Hawks. Fast forward to January 8th and it’s clear that Alex has become exactly that for 5th ranked Chaska. The junior leads the Hawks with 17 points a game and last night attacked for an And1 with a minute to go for the 62-59 game winner over Minnetonka.
Davon Townley of Minneapolis North. The Polars picked up a huge win in a slugfest with DeLaSalle last night 52-51. The Polars improved to 6-4 on the season handing the Islanders their second loss. There was a lot of talented players on the floor but the guy that stepped up above everybody else was 6-foot-6 long armed, athletic forward Davon Townley. Townley scored 19 and I was told he had a double-double so I am going to assume double digit boards as well.
Will Tschetter of Stewartville. Will is currently leading the state in scoring at 35.6 points per game shooting 68 percent from the field and 45 percent from the arc! Last night Will led his team to a win over Lourdes with 34 points and 15 rebounds improving their record to 9-2 on the season. He also had 39 points and a dozen boards in the win over Jordan. Right now Will has clearly established himself as the second best junior in the state (behind Chet).
