“I’d say I’m a lanky shooter with athleticism who can make plays below and above the rim,” Latimer stated.
As usual, the team goal for Paul VI this year is to win the WCAC. Latimer likes his team’s chances. He’s set some personal goals as he is set to see an uptick in minutes.
“I know all of us a wanna get better from last year. (Winning the league) is gonna be tough this year cause we’re small. But we’re fast. With what we have, I think we have a really good chance,” said Latimer. “Personal goal is to definitely score in double digits. Having at least five rebounds a game. Having at least four assists a game.”
Latimer has spent a lot of time hitting perimeter threes, but we saw a bit of his offensive versatility this summer while he ran on the AAU circuit with Team Takeover Orange. Latimer is an adept paint getter who is crafty around the rim and has a nice pull up game as well.
“Definitely ball handling still. Jump shot. Everything,” Latimer replied when asked what he needs to work on. “Definitely defense. Talking on defense. Bringing my motor. Hustle. Bringing energy to help my teammates.”
Concordia, a division two program in New York, was the first school to offer Latimer a scholarship. Howard and Stony Brook were the first two division one programs he received offers from. During a recent visit to UMBC, Latimer received another offer. High Point, Dayton, and Louisiana Tech are among the other schools who are reported to have expressed interest in Latimer.
“They don’t see me as just a shooter. They see me as a guy that can do everything,” said Latimer about the schools who are recruiting him. “I make sure not to do one thing. They see me as a big guard who can do everything.”
Latimer is an excellent student who carries a cumulative 3.4 GPA, and could emerge as a target for schools in various conferences. From the Patriot and Ivy to the A10, the CAA, and the American East. What can a program expect from Latimer?
“A program is gonna get all of me. I’m gonna pour everything in. Not give anything up. Always kinda keep on pushing harder and harder every day. Making sure I get better. But of course keeping everything I do now. Shooting, getting to the basket. Scoring at all three levels. Playing defense. Bringing energy.”
