2019 Governor’s Challenge Preview: Olympic High School
The Olympic Trojans head into the 2019 Governor’s Challenge with a 7-2 record. Here’s a preview of what to watch for.
Trevon Williams, 2021, Guard
Trevon Williams is a junior prospect that’s due to turn heads at the Governor’s Challenge. Williams is an athletic combo guard that can get to the rim and finish with authority and knock down the 3-ball. He’s had a strong showing alongside Josh Banks in the frontcourt this season.
Josh Banks, 2020, Guard
Josh Banks is the team’s leading scorer at 22.9 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. He’s an electric player that can fill it up within the offense. He’s headed to VCU after his senior season at Olympic.
Nishawn Hodge, 2020, Forward
Nishawn Hodge is a 6-foot-2 forward that can do a little bit of everything with his ability to rebound, make plays for others and finish around the rim. Hodge is an unsigned senior with some talent left in his skill set.
Kush Carter, 2022, Forward
2022 forward Kush Carter is slowly figuring things out for the Trojans in the frontcourt. He put up 15 points and snagged 10 rebounds against South Mecklenburg back on Dec. 17. He’s a young prospect to watch for Olympic.
Schedule
12/26 – Monsignor Bonner (PA) – 8:30 PM
The Trojans will open their 2019 Governor’s Challenge slate against Monsignor Bonner out of Pennsylvania. Senior guards Donovan Rodriguez and Tyreese Watson should be a good challenge for Olympic’s backcourt.
12/27 – Elizabeth (NJ) – 1:30 PM
Youth will challenge Olympic once again in their second matchup against Elizabeth, led by 2022 point guard Jayden Pierre. 2020s DJ Watkins and Jordan Price are two 2020 prospects to keep an eye on as well.
12/28 – Dulaney (MD) – 3:15 PM
Olympic won’t have an easy final game facing off against Dulaney (MD). 2021 top prospect Ryan Conway makes up part of their strong backcourt. 2020 forward Cam Byers and 2021 guard Jaylin Webster are two other prospects to watch.
