Although there were some familiar faces, there was also some new names that we could see making a real impact this season for their respective teams.
Watch Out for Richmond County!
Richmond County was the most dominant team in the event, winning their first two games by a large margin, their JV team competed in the third game of the day. Senior Jarvis Tillman at 6’6 is back and should have a big time season, while 2021 6’5 Nygie Stroman seems to be set to have a breakout season as well. Be on the lookout for this squad as they have many of the pieces to be a successful squad this upcoming season.
The Backcourt of Southern Lee has a chance to be good.
Southern Lee 2020 Guard Sa’vion Clay: Will be one of the players that provides some senior leadership as well some much needed scoring. The lefty has a silky smooth game and caused problems for defenders all day long, don’t be shocked to see him putting up numbers this season.
Southern Lee 2021 Guard Quashawn Williams: Really impressive showing from this young man as he handled the PG duties for the squad for a good portion of the day. He has outstanding ball handling skills to go along with his speed that allows him to blow by defenders with ease. Shooting wise he knocked down the deep ball and has a quicker release so his shot doesn’t get blocked or altered often.
South Central HS has a different look than last year.
They were missing some players due to different reasons but even with those players present, the squad has a much different look than last year. With Dayron Sharpe, Shykeim Phillips, Jahzeer Baker and Shy’Quan Jones, who all played big roles for the team in their state championship season gone, the new players will have big roles to fill.
South Central 2020 Trevon Ward: He caught fire from downtown in the first game of the day as he was one of the most consistent players for the squad production wise. Has the tools to be an outstanding defender and does a nice job of using his wingspan to come up with deflections and steals.
South Central 2020 Isaiah Mills: Has a nice natural feel for the game, can score it but also sees the floor well. With some of the teams potential starters missing, he stepped in and played solid throughout the day. He has a quick first step, is an unselfish player and plays within the flow of the offense.
South Central 2023 Guard Daylin Brown: Displayed some impressive end to end speed, he’s a smaller guard but uses his quickness to make plays. He will only get better as time goes but overall he looked in some of his first action as a varsity player.
