The 6’2″ Mason has a smooth overall offensive skill set that has helped him garner an offer from Henderson State University as well as interest from several other schools at the Division II and NAIA levels.
Mason is an excellent perimeter shooter from 3-point range, but he also has the excellent handles and court savvy to create plays off the dribble as a scorer or facilitator.
“It’s a huge advantage being able to create opportunities for myself and my teammates off the dribble while staying unpredictable,” he said. “I believe my shot is my biggest strength, off the catch and off the dribble. But also seeing the floor and picking apart defenses, whether it be full court, half court, zone or matchup.”
Mason was able to put together a very productive junior season despite missing two months with a back injury. He came back strong to average 14.4 points and three assists a game to lead Nixa to an 16-13 season and a berth in the Class 5 district championship game. In his first game back, he scored 26 points against a strong Webb City team.
“After two months of not playing, it wasn’t as hard to get back into the flow, scoring and shooting, having 26 in my first game back,” he said. “But more in a way of feeling confident sprinting and jumping with the hip was the part that took several weeks. But I am ready for this season, especially because I haven’t played an entire varsity season yet and I am 100 percent healthy and ready to go.”
With a healthy Mason in the lead, the Eagles will definitely be in the hunt in the xx Conference as well as a district championship. Adding more motivation is Nixa’s loss to Kickapoo in the district championship game last season on a last-second 3-pointer by standout guard Anton Brookshire.
“As a team, I want to win 20-plus games, obviously win our district and make a Final Four appearance,” he said. “I am extremely motivated to win our district this year because how close we were last year and how that game ended.”
