Jaxon Kohler 6’8 PF Coronado #1 – Kohler transferring in makes him one of the highest-profile additions to the state. His size and length alone make him a formidable player, combine that with his skillset and it’s easy to see why he is the number one player in the class. Plays in the summertime with the EYBL SFG squad.
Shane Thomas 6’2 SG Centennial #8 – My apologies to Mr Thomas. He should have been on the original list. Thomas is an absolute sniper who doubles as a lockdown perimeter defender. Plays in the summer time with the Las Vegas Knicks Gauntlet squad, so he’s used to playing against high level competition.
Tavionte Jackson 5’8 PG Las Vegas #11 – You have to give Jackson credit for production. As a freshman last year he was the 2nd leading scorer for Las Vegas High. Lighting quick PG that can create his own shot, or play off the ball and knock down jumpers. Sheer confidence from his first season should allow him to build on the second.
Fredy Vargas 6’0 PG Rancho #12 – Vargas makes the list based on the eye test, and potential. Last year he was a freshman playing on a senior lead team with one of the state’s leading scorers. This year, he’s one of the veterans on a young talented Rancho squad. He plays longer than his 6’0 frame, and is an underrated playmaker. Add in the fact that he’s a knockdown shooter, and he is going to have the ball in his hands quite a bit, and the conditions are in line for a big year for Vargas.
Aaron Price 6’4 PF Liberty #14 – Go into the gym and watch Aaron Price play for 5 minutes and then try to convince yourself, that he’s not one of the top players in the class. In the words of Mike Singletary, “Can’t Do It”. Price is a high ceiling player with tons of potential. Right now his best trait is his athleticism, however, he has that in spades. Explosive leaper that is going to provide several second-chance opportunities for Liberty.
Miles Mitchell 5’11 PG Cimarron #21 – I’m really interested in watching Mitchell play this year. If he adds perimeter defense to his skill set, expect him to make an impact. Mitchell is a knock down shooter, that also finds ways to score off the ball. Cimarron is a pressure, intense, defense-first squad, however his shooting could prove crucial to their offensive production.
Lorenzo Moore 6’4 PF Canyon Springs #23 – I watched Moore play a little in the summer and was intrigued. He has the size and build to be a solid post player. Still raw and developing, I love the fact that he’s willing to give you effort every night. Won’t be counted on for much scoring at Canyon Springs, which should allow him to play to his strengths early in the season.
