Many top notch 6A-2A teams plus standout preps and CAA schools. It was great seeing much variety from all across the state as far out as Yuma, AZ (Gila Ridge HS).
Here were some of the top unsigned seniors:
Byron Brown SG/SF 6’4 Sahuarita
-Can virtually do it all. Plays all 5 positions for his Tucson school. Defends top players on every opposing team, brings up the ball, leads the team in assists, steals, blocks, rebounds and of course points. Has a great body to drive it and score through contact. Shoots 3’s and can pull-up from mid-range and likes the floater. His passing skill is very underrated and watch out since he may posterize someone on the break with his athleticism. Has the look of baby Kawhii Leonard.
Emad Elniel SF 6’5 PHH Prep 2nd team
-Catch and shoot wing forward who is very athletic. He has great length to defend inside and out and is great on the break. He has a nice 3pt shooting stroke and can drive it to the basket. His talent, body and athleticism are obvious D1 traits.
Tanner Poeschl PF 6’6 Skyline
-Long and fluid forward and who seems to always be in the right spots on defense. He blocks shots in bunches using his timing, athleticism and length. He can face-up and hit 3’s plus is always around the rim rebounding the ball at a high level. He closes out to shooters about as well as you could. He doesn’t have the physical strength yet makes plays vs more physically imposing players. Once he fills in, he will be a nice diamond in the rough.
Jordan Gainey SG 6’2 Salpointe Catholic
-One of the more skilled guards in Tucson. He has a polished pull-up off the dribble and he is sneaky athletic with good length. He finishes well inside with either hand. He uses his length in the passing lanes and although he is a little thin, he gives high effort inside. He is quick in the open court and will be the perfect compliment next to Evan Nelson this season.
Gainey is a true breakout candidate for 4A.Case Parsons PF 6’7 BASIS Scottsdale
-Face-up 4-man plays at one of the smallest (313) and one of the highest academic schools in the country (#3 in the country/#1 in AZ). He has decent size, good skill and is sneaky bouncy. He rebounds well in his area and can rip through and finish through contact. He can shoot it to the 3pt line and in and plays really hard with a nice build/frame.
Parsons is a deep sleeper at the highest academic school.Tyson Legner CG 6’2 Rancho Solano Prep
-One of the stronger guards you will see in AZ. Great upper body to get into the lane and finish through contact. He shoots the ball easily with deep range from the perimeter and has become their PG for this season. He is probably more of a natural two but he is a good passer and is very skilled, smart and a physical defender.
Cam Fass SF 6’5 Arcadia
-Skilled forward has a pure stroke from deep. He has a quick shooting release to not get his shot blocked. He has a thicker body to bang inside and plays hard. He can defend the post plus outside on the perimeter. He can work on his handle but he is another breakout candidate for 4A since he didn’t even play hoops last year. He threw down a windmill dunk in warm-ups showing his improved bounce.
Braden Miller PG 5’10 Salpointe Catholic
-Tough and cerebral pure PG. He can shoot it from the perimeter and loves to drive it and get to the rim. Good off pick and roll/drive and kick. Another talented senior for the Lancers title run this year.
Kedale Harris PG 5’7 Glenview College Prep
-Speed on speed. One of the faster guards out there. Has a nice floater game and can shoot it from the perimeter. He sets the table for his team and is a very good passer. He is definitely on the smaller side but makes up for it with his blazing speed, good skill and motor.
Harris and Miller are 2 talented players from the CAA Glenview College Prep.Nydarious Miller SG 6’1 Glenview College Prep
-Long and lean scoring guard with nice speed. He has a quick crossover but needs to use it more wisely to get by his defender. He is a very good catch shooter from the 3pt line with deep range. The lefty can improve his right hand but has nice upside, a good shooting stroke and athleticism.
