Top 250 Expo: Stock Risers
The first Top 250 Expo of the summer for Prep Hoops came to a close yesterday evening and it was a great one. As you’ve already seen in videos being posted, there was plenty of big time plays being made and even more talent in the gym.
We will take a look at the Top Stock Risers across the event including a 2020 prospect that did a good job making a name for himself Sunday.
2017
Latrell Jones (6’2 SG, Archbishop Shaw) – There is no prospect who has climbed as high this summer as he has. The consistent level of high play has been absolutely incredible and that did not change one bit on Sunday as he displayed every bit of his game both skill set wise and athletically.
Darius McCord (6’5 F, Faith Training) – Sometimes getting a closer look on a prospect is exactly what you need. At Northwestern’s team camp in June, he displayed plenty of ability around the rim but didn’t get to show off his perimeter game. That changed at the Expo and certainly changes how we view him going forward.
Blake Turner (5’10 PG, North Vermillion) – Turner was one of the more consistent shooters on the day and his range was very impressive. Offensively there is very little he isn’t comfortable doing when the ball is in his hands and he’ll be one to watch for small schools throughout the season.
2018
Darius Hampton (6’0 G, Walker) – Hampton routinely found the ball in his hands in scoring situations and made the most of it. He can knock down shots when open and finishes around the rim with either hand without an issue. Crafty ball handler with an extremely quick first step.
Trent Ivy (6’4 G/F, Airline) – Ivy made plays throughout the day and really stood out on his team. He blocked shots on the defensive end and got out and ran for easy dunks as well. For Airline he plays more on the perimeter and we look forward to seeing that skillset in the upcoming season.
Jourdan Smith (6’5 G/F, Archbishop Shaw) – Like we mentioned yesterday, his play at camp was as eye opening as any other prospects on just what all he’s capable of on the court. While the jumper will need some refinement, the rest of his game was top notch. Long athletic wing is a terror in transition.
2019
Jason Chan (6’0 PG, Holy Cross) – Chan displayed incredible handles in drill work and carried it over to games as well. Even the best and quickest defenders had trouble staying in front of him. He see’s the floor well and can make the passes his vision affords him.
Charlie Russell (6’5 G/F, Sophie B Wright) – Russell was long, athletic and looked like a nice prospect around the rim until camp started. Then he showed off his ability to handle the ball, both in half court and open court, and knock down open jumpers as well. Bright future ahead.
Kalil Thomas (6’3 G, Holy Cross) – Thomas proved just how complete his game is already with a pretty jumper and the handles to punish any defender that dares to contest too hard. Length defensively means he’ll have a chance to be a lock down defender in time as well.
2020
Chanse Robinson (5’9 G, Grambling Lab) – There were a couple known players in the 2020 class and Robinson made sure we knew who he was at the end of camp as well. He was aggressive from the beginning and displayed the athleticism and ability to get into the lane at will throughout both drills and games.
Other 2017 Prospects
Raylon Hardy (5’10 PG, Hahnville), Jakobey Hitchens (6’3 F, Jehovah-Jireh), James Lee (6’3 G/F, NOMMA), Jonathon Moss (5’8 PG, McKinley), Brooks Murrell (6’5 F, Archbishop Hannan)
