By the end of the club season, Deng was able to jump all the way to the top of the Prep Hoops Arizona rankings for the class of 2019.
Deng has not had the most conventional route as he is a refugee who came to Tucson in 2011. Since
arriving in Tucson, Deng has made the most of his opportunities as he is currently ranked as the 4th best player in the west coast.
This top tier prospect currently holds offers from, “San Francisco, Portland, GCU, New Mexico, and ASU.” He has also received interest from “Vanderbilt, Cal, UCLA, USC, Georgia Tech, and New Mexico State.”
Also important to note, Deng has been invited to attend many elite camps. He will be attending “Cal, USC, and UCLA in September” and going to “New Mexico State this next weekend.”
As far as what he is looking for in a college, he stated, “I’m looking to get the best education possible and where there’s a good coach and [I] fit in.”
Deng should have plenty of offers by the time that it is all said and done. He is a special talent who can do a little bit of everything. He is also very fluid on the court while having great length and good athleticism. Moreover, due to his athletic abilities and work ethic, his potential appears to be through the roof. It is also important to note that Deng has taken care of business in the classroom. He currently has a “3.4 GPA.”
As far as this upcoming season is concerned, he is hoping to expand his role and play at an extremely high level. With the move to 4A, Deng and the rest of the very talented Salpointe Catholic roster should be viewed as a legitimate contender to Shadow Mountain. Despite his age, it is realistic to expect Deng to contend for the most talented player in the entire classification.
In addition, Deng, who competes for PowerHouse Hoops Black, the top club team in his age group in Arizona; looks to gain notoriety from playing on the national stage. This team has the potential to be one of the top teams in the west coast as well as in the nation.
Anything short of a breakout season for him would be a disappointment and quite surprising. Keep an eye on him and Salpointe Catholic this next season.
