Williams was outstanding when we saw him recently at the PrepHoops Top 250 Camp. The two guard played with such a high energy level on both ends of the floor. It started with what he did defensively. In a camp setting sometimes it is hard to find standouts on that end, but he was definitely that. Got in passing lanes for steals which he took the other way, blocked shots on the perimeter, and was overall aggressive defending in one on one situations. Offensively he showed more confidence on his three point ball and attacked the cup with a burst.
Williams spoke about repeating as state champs this past season at Belleville West.
“It was hard. We had ups and downs. We had to come together at the end of the season because we went through a rough patch where we lost a couple games, but we ended up finding our connection in the end.”
His role will shift dramatically with the big fella gone.
“Last year I was guarding the best player. I had to work around better players and work under EJ (Liddell). This year I will have a bigger scoring role and have to be a bigger leader.”
Over the summer he played with Brad Beal Elite in the Nike EYBL. What areas of his game did he feel he improved the most?
“My shooting and beating people off the dribble.”
Williams updated us on his recruitment.
“I have been talking to Valpo, Miami (OH), St. Louis, SIU-Edwardsville, and Central Michigan.”
No offers currently, but SIU-Edwardsville is showing a lot of interest and recently had him on campus.
“I liked it. It felt like family. It is close to home and I know a lot of people that go there.”
Williams currently checks in as the #28 overall prospect in the 2021 class and #10 shooting guard.
