Prep Hoops takes a look at several of the state’s top performers throughout the spring and summer.
20-Tariq Izard, 6’0, G, 2021, Trinity Academy, Perry Ellis Elite 16U
A hungry defender who moves well off screens and climbs his way out of traps. He plays well off the ball and can move constantly without slowing down. Izard connected from several 3-pointers and mid-range shots Saturday and showed the ability to handle the ball and get open looks through his movement.
14-Ben Herrs, 6’2, 2021, Andover, Attack
Another quiet player for Attack who keeps his head down and makes extra passes, switches on defense and can find open looks through his movement. He can defend the ball and even play some on the post if he needs to. A nice piece who looks to pass and get open.
0-Nate Hawk, 6’3, F, 2021, Valley Falls, Kansas Hoggs
Hawk does well off the ball and can be a problem for teams who can’t match up with his height. He has a long frame and is good at moving inside and then back around the 3-point line. He can second guess himself at times but shows a lot of promise on the block.
11-Brock Merz, 6’1, 2021, Ark City, Attack
A quick guard who defends the ball well and looks to play close and keep opponents uncomfortable. He has solid athleticism. He can take it for himself and has the ability to get a step on his opponents and use his body to create enough space to lay it off the glass.
10-Jayden Hall, 5’9, G, 2021, Campus, Perry Ellis Elite 16U
Hall may be one of the smallest players on the floor but he can shoot and does so well. He shot a high percentage against Team Foe and was quick with his release. He played strong defense against taller players and primary ball handlers and was physical, strong and looked to get a hand on the ball.
