Two Michigan Division III programs have offered a varsity spot to the good-sized wing, and one Division II school remains in contact.
“D3 can’t really offer, but Alma College told me I’d be on the varsity squad if I came in next year, and same with Albion. And then I’ve been talking to Grand Valley State a lot too. So those are the three schools that are showing interest,” said Middleton, who detailed the Grand Valley State interest.
“They’ve contacted me a couple times, and they had me come to their elite camp. I might try and walk-on there if they don’t offer. But I’m not exactly sure yet what I want to do.”
A rangy wing with some very decent size, Middleton broke down what it is he does best on the hardwood.
“I’m pretty tall and long so that works to my advantage on the wing. I’m a pretty good shooter, and I’m versatile, I can guard a lot of positions on the floor, and I can get to the basket also — so I’ve got a pretty good all-around game.”
Though he played in only a couple tournaments this summer with West Michigan Select, he has been spending his entire offseason working to improve.
“During the spring I focused on getting in the weight room and getting stronger. And last year during the high school season my shot was a little off, so I worked on getting that back, and getting confidence back in my shot. And then ball-handling, I worked a lot on that too,” said Middleton, who now is prepping for his senior season.
“I’m the leader of the team, this will be my fourth year with the varsity. We’re looking to have a pretty good senior season, we have seven seniors coming back so that’s good. I’m looking to lead the team to a league championship, and maybe a district championship.”
And his ultimate personal goal: to play ball at the next level — with the Lakers.
“I really want to play college basketball so I really hope I get that opportunity,” said Middleton. “Hopefully Grand Valley State continues to show interest, that’s like my dream school.”
