PrepHoops Circuit: New Names on Radar Pt 2

One of the best aspects of the PrepHoops Circuit was finding new prospects emerge every single weekend. We flipped throughout our notebooks to find the new players that put their Name on our Radar! Here is Part 2! Taurean Holtam (QC Ballers 17U) Holtam is the most obvious name for this list all spring and summer! He was outstanding at Battle at the Lakes posting huge games including a 48 point outing! Consistently scored at a high level all weekend long. What you have to like about his game is at his size at 6’5” he can square his broad shoulders and get to the cup. Showed flashes as a shooter, but was inconsistent. Good rebounder especially with a quick second jump on the offensive glass.   Malachi Key (QC Ballers 17U) Key is a 6’6” power forward with a nice frame. Potential as a rebounder with some projectability. Offensively he moves well and even hit a corner three. Showed improvement on shot throughout the summer.   Tristen Phillips (TS Wolverines 17U) Phillips can really shoot it from the perimeter. One of the best shooting strokes we saw as he drilled five triples in the game we saw. Smaller point guard that can really let it fly from deep.   Kymari McBride (TS Wolverines 17U) McBride is a thick bodied forward that proved to be a very active rebounder. Very undersized, but used his tenacity to get on the glass.   Damontae Taylor (Team Rose 17U) Taylor is the opposite of McBride in terms of look. Long and lanky combo forward with an extremely projectable frame. The 6’7” forward runs the floor with fluidity and threw down several poster dunks. Raw tools to work with!   Joseph Owens (Irvin Select 17U) Owens is a DeKalb product that made a name for himself against Team Rose at Battle. The combo forward was an excellent mid-range shooter that knocked them down with consistency. Also was adequate shooting corner threes.   Jonah Ogunsayna (Full Package 17U) This Rolling Meadows point guard hit the game tying three to send his team to OT in a game they would eventually go on to win in Minnesota. Sound shooter that can also handle it with a couple nice drives.   Zach Miller (Full Package 17U) Miller showed flashes as the lanky lefty lead guard made plays in the lane with runners and was active on the offensive glass.   Will Wainscott (Hoopers 17U) Wainscott drilled a ton of threes in their opening night contest against MBA at Havoc. The thin and wiry two guard had a sweet looking shooting stroke from three and he let them fly from deep!   Jason Williams (Hoopers 17U) Williams is a Hinsdale South product that has the chance to develop into a slick scorer. He had a sweet behind the back layup along with a three ball with a clean release.   Niles Arrington (Team RWA 17U) Arrington is a Home School 6’8” power forward that has tremendous strength. Excellent rebounder that snatched them out of the air with his strong hands. Was a major factor on the boards on both ends of the floor. Got on the offensive glass for put backs. Flashed a spin move and mid-range jumper. Very tough post defender.   Garrett Horner (Illinois Stars 17U) Horner opened our eyes with the way he shot it from deep. The Wheaton North two guard was excellent shooting it from three point territory with a sweet looking three point stroke.   Saiveon Williams (Young & Reckless 17U) Williams is a big time athlete that is about to make a name for himself this season with Curie. The big and strong wing plays above the rim, rebounds well, and has the chance to be a very good perimeter defender.   Taijon Barry (Young & Reckless 16U) Barry is a 6’5” athletic power forward out of Eisenhower High School. Super bouncy four man that has a nice frame to continue to add strength. Quick to the glass and can take it to his man from the mid-post. Intriguing prospect!   Isaiah Stafford (Young & Reckless 16U) Stafford was without question the biggest new name on our radar that emerge at Havoc in the Heartland! The Bolingbrook 6’1” combo guard proved to be an ELITE shooter from the perimeter. He made shots with such ease making it look effortless from their first game to last. Both from three and mid-range. Next step in development will be to show more point guard skills as he played off the ball most of the circuit.   Miles Casey (Young & Reckless 15U) Casey is a high IQ point guard from St. Ignatius that we had heard about, but here got our first extended eval. The 2022 product is a crafty player with a feel for the game. Scored mostly in the lane on runners when we saw him.   Lance Rodgers (Young & Reckless 15U) Rodgers is an intriguing post at about 6’5” with broad shoulders and long arms. Should continue to grow. Athletic and angular forward that has the prospect look.   Keon Alexander (Hoopers 14U) The 6’5” 2023 prospect is a long and lanky lefty that is super bouncy. Great mobility and fluid moves with the ball. One to watch going forward at Bolingbrook!   Justin King (Illinois Bears 15U) King is a combo guard that has such a smoothness to his game. Capable shooter that knocked down several jumpers including step backs. Effortless winning off the dribble.   Brady Moore (Illinois Bears 15U) Moore was a productive wing. He took it at the basket with strong drives and made plays at the rim both in the half court and transition.   Jacob Patton (Illinois Bears 15U) Patton was a productive player that is smaller at the guard spot, but he wasn’t afraid going in the lane for scores and was a decent passer.   Brennan Weller (Southwest Jets 16U) This Edwardsville two guard was a kid that put his name on the map with his shot making and overall gritty play when we saw them play for the Jets.   Caleb Valentine (Southwest Jets 16U) Valentine is a smaller guard from Edwardsville. The guard got to the rim with his speed along with being a capable pull up jump shooter.
