It might not necessarily always be the highest rated prospect in the program either although it very well could be.
In our latest edition we present the Illinois Stars program MVP to Lemont 2017 point guard PJ Pipes.
Pipes has been a dominant force on the grassroots circuit the last two summers for the Illinois Stars. The power point guard has a strong and compact body which allows him to physically over power other lead guards. Pipes is at his best attacking downhill and getting in the lane where he can score through contact. Has developed more consistency with his jump shot over the last year from both mid-range and three. The biggest area of improvement we have seen however is in his ability to run a team and be a distributor. It didn’t come natural to him at the beginning, but credit his hard work and basketball intelligence on helping him become a more complete point guard. When his team needed him the most Pipes put them on his back and carried them. That was no more evident in one game in July where they were getting handled and it looked like they might lose by mercy rule. Pipes wasn’t going down like that. He scored bucket after bucket. Got steals on the defensive end. Led them back to a win. The kid just competes!
Congrats to PJ on winning the Illinois Stars program MVP award.
