Matt’s Friday Night Standouts
The opening night of The Finale in OKC started with a bang! There were several games that went down to the wire. Below are a few prospects I caught in action who had big nights.
Payton Brown 2020 Team Cooper Guard
Brown was the outstanding scorer of the night. He was the find of opening night. Brown scored the ball very effectively at all three levels. When he wanted to get to the rim he used his craftiness to find his way for an easy bucket. Brown also was a very nice shooter from distance. I was highly impressed with his opening performance.
Jayden Nicholson 2023 Team Griffin Guard
Nicholson was an absolute beast scoring the first 11 of Griffins 14. Bully buckets came easy to Nicholson the crazy part? He was playing up an age against a good program. Nicholson has a winners mentality in the way he plays and leads on the court. You will be hearing his name a lot over the next four years and beyond.
Justus Cooper 2020 Team Cooper Forward
Cooper was a good rebounder and glue guy to open the game. He is a stretch four man. In the second half, he got hot and scored double digits in a short amount of time. Cooper does a little bit of everything, which is a big reason why he has lots of interest.
Teagan James 2020 Team Cooper Guard
James was a big time glue guy in the opening win for the Team Cooper. The change of pace he brings to the floor makes him tough to defend. He shared the ball excellently and was a clear pass first to the open man. He had a knack for making plays from taking charges, playmaking off the dribble, to coming up with loose balls. James is a key part of the Team Cooper squad.
Caison Hartloff 2021 Tulsa Hawks Wing
Hartloff lit it up from the tip from three-point range. This young man has NCAA D2 written all over him. A good scorer with great hustle. He nabbed a pair of nice steals as well.
Austin Kenwisher 2020 UC Hoops Guard
Kenwisher was silent in the first half.. then all of a sudden he exploded in the second half. He was attacking the basket with aggression. An early jumper in the second half got him going. Once he saw it go through the rim it was lights out from there.
Darrin Ryan 2020 H&H Elite Guard
Ryan was a big time scoring force on opening night. As he can from time to time, Ryan caught fire from three-point range. He has to be in the conversation for one of the best spot up shooters in Oklahoma.
Mason Alexander 2020 Oklahoma Showtime Forward
Alexander is a hybrid guy that loves attacking the rim. He did major damage on Friday night turning a few heads. The soft touch he displayed around the rim was key. It will be interesting to keep our eye on him going forward.
Tyler Haddock 2020 Oklahoma Showtime Guard
Haddock knocked down 38 points to open The Finale. You could say he was filling it up. The shooting blood flows strongly through his veins. It was an impressive showing, to say the least.
Jake Gendron 2021 Tulsa Hawks Wing
The Tulsa Hawks key defender of the night was Gendron who was all over the place wreaking havoc. He picked up a couple of blocks and steals in the game I watched him in.
Josh Price 2021 Oklahoma Power Wing
Price was on FIRE Friday night for the Oklahoma Power. He was 9-10 from the floor, 5-6 from three-point range. Price is the definition of a knock down catch and shoot guy.
Kyren Angelo 2021 ShOtime (KS) Guard
Angelo had himself quite the night scoring the ball off the bounce with ease. He helped ShOtime to a huge win to advance to the second round. He is speedy with a nice finishing package around the rim.
