Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s guards to keep your eyes on in the 2021 class
Brady Frickey, 5’10, G, 2021, Ellis
A confident guard who can score and get the ball to his teammates. He has good vision for his size and is good at shaking off defenders and moving them into a screen. He just finds a way to score. He rebounds well on both ends and can pick away passes or run the lane so he can finish in transition ahead of the defense.
Mason Haxton, 6’0, G, 2021, Hoisington
An electric guard with the ball who uses his size well and pushes the tempo. He drives inside and has strong handles and physical toughness. He can shoot from outside but he finds open lanes and drives more often than not. He keeps defenders on their toes. A player with the talent to do what he needs to at any given moment.
Ethan Means, 6’2, G, 2021, Stockton
Another guard with good handles and a sense of creativity on both ends of the floor. He can shoot well from distance and can move inside some and connect from mid-range. He’s also good at getting to the basket and staying active and on the move. He comes off screens well and shoots quickly after the catch. Also a good rebounder passer and a player who can force turnovers.
Blaise Mcvan, 5’8, G, 2021, Abilene
A nice 3-point shooter who is quick to get his shot off. He plays hard on defense, looking to tip away passes and stay with his opponent. He plays his best ball on the offensive side. He stays on the move and runs hard off screens and pops out for an open look.
Jaxson Gebhardt, 5’11, G, 2021, Southeast of Salina
A guard who can put up a bunch of points in one game and make smart rebounds and get his teammates the ball in the next. He is an unselfish player who runs the floor and looks to get ahead in transition. He can handle the ball well and pushes the tempo when he has the chance.
