While this is going on, it’s important to remember that there are athletes waiting to come out of June firing on all cylinders. Matthew Jenkins could be one of those players. He’s a 6’2″ guard in the class of 2020. Jenkins attends Bradford Academy.
Jenkins has the skills necessary to be a breakout player. He plays with a shooters mentality, not afraid to hit a dagger from anywhere on the floor. Jenkins is a solid finisher. He can seal the deal anywhere around the basket with either hand. Jenkins is a smart player who simply understands the game of basketball.
Matthew Jenkins is striving to improve and gain experience. You can see his game develop as he works on his craft and becomes a veteran. Jenkins is currently working to improve his first step to the bucket. He would like it to be quicker and allow him to put defenders on their heels. Jenkins’ biggest moment in the game of basketball was when he, as a freshman, scored 26 points on 5 3 pointers in a varsity game. He is looking forward to playing Ferndale next high school season. Jenkins looks forward to testing his skills against Ferndale stars Simon Wheeler and Jayshawn Moore.
Jenkins is driven by his goals. He wants to play Division 1 college basketball and eventually go to the NBA. Ultimately, Jenkins wants to put himself in the position to be able to buy his Mom a house by the beach. He hopes that a college will notice his toughness and desire to have the ball in his hands in crunch time, and give him the opportunity to play at the next level.
“My greatest motivation to achieve my goal is my friend who died this past summer. I just gotta make him proud. I know he’s looking down wondering when I’m getting the family somewhere in the hills.”
