Prospect Spotlight: Jack Taylor (2021)
There’s no denying the fact that Jack Taylor can shoot the ball at a high level. The 16-year old wing prospect, who hit 43 threes during a breakout sophomore season at Marshall, is adding to his overall game.
“I had a pretty big growth spurt in the past two years,” said Taylor, who currently owns a long-limbed 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame. “Now I’m starting to be able to take it to the rim. Get down low and body people. I’ve usually been a shooter my whole life, but now I’m starting to work off the dribble and pulling from mid range. I like the mid range a lot.”
One thing that stood out about Taylor during a recent outing at Fairfax Summer league are his intangibles. He’s a vocal presence on the court who makes guys around him better by looking to get them involved.
“I think I need to go a little harder on defense. For my high school team, I do a majority of the work so sometimes I get a little lazy,” Taylor said when asked what he’s working on. “I need to give as much on defense as I do on offense. That’s probably my biggest weakness. Working on defense.”
It should be noted that Taylor is also taking care of business in the classroom. Coming off a year in which he averaged nearly 15 points per game, he also recorded a 3.7 GPA. If he maintains strong academic standing and continues to improve on the hardwood, Taylor could emerge as a target for Patriot and Ivy league types. What could he bring to a college program?
“Working hard, pushing the team. I like to do what I can to make them better.”
