Scottie Barnes – 2020 – SF – Nightrydas
Barnes went for 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two blocks in a high-level matchup with Phenom University. A skilled, versatile forward with elite vision, Barnes did a ton of damage as a facilitator and slasher in the high post areas. Barnes was relentless with the basketball, getting to the foul line a whopping 17 times. A top five prospect in the 2020 class, Barnes’ ability to exploit just about any matchup makes him one of the most difficult players in the country to defend. The 6-foot-8 forward has post-up ability, perimeter handles, transition skills, and when he’s forcing defenders to respect his jumper, is an absolute nightmare to guard.
Lorne Bowman – 2020 – PG – The Family
A new addition to the roster, Bowman certainly wasn’t overwhelmed by the EYBL. Bowman scored a team-high 20 points to go along with six assists during a tight loss to Alabama Fusion. Bowman showed off his three-level scoring ability, able to blow by defenders and get to the rim, hit from mid-range, and take advantage of defenders who went under screens and burn them with 3-pointers, going 4-of-7 from downtown. The Wisconsin commit is also a terrific defender, consistently shutting off drives and not allowing anything easy to the rim.
Jaemyn Brakefield – 2020 – G/F – Phenom University
For a while, it was give Brakefield the ball and get out of the way. The 6-foot-8 point forward is a serious matchup problem with his ability to handle the ball and create off the dribble. The lefty got to the rim at will and converted many high-level finishes around the rim and against contact. Brakefield chipped in with 20 points on an efficient 15 shots during Phenom University’s win over Nightrydas. He also added five rebounds and two steals while going against two five-star prospects.
Jalen Johnson – 2020 G/F – Phenom University
Johnson continues to prove that he should be considered as the nation’s top prospect. In a star-studded matchup with Nightrydas (FL), Johnson left no doubt who the alpha dog was while facing a pair of five-star prospects. Johnson posted 24 points, nine rebounds, and four assists as Phenom University cruised to a lopsided victory. Johnson had a huge third quarter in which his jumper started falling and he exploited lazy defense with some highlight dunks right down main street.
Isaiah Rivera – 2020 – SG – Meanstreets
Loved the body control around the rim that Rivera displayed Friday night. The Illinois guard has a ton of confidence to play amongst the trees, knowing he can hang and adjust if needed and still finish under duress. A bouncy wing with a strong frame, Rivera tallied 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting during a win over Drive Nation (TX). He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Rivera’s outside shot can be streaky, but he’s got a smooth, effortless stroke that’s much improved since last summer. If he starts knocking that down consistently, more high majors should start getting involved.
Mark Sears – 2020 – G – Alabama Fusion
He’s only about 6-feet tall and 160 pounds, ,but Sears did some damage on the perimeter for Alabama Fusion in their win over The Family. Flirting with a triple-double, Sears posted 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists Friday night. Going an efficient 8-of-12 from the floor, Sears was getting to the rim at will, breaking down defenders and adjusting his shots accordingly against The Family’s long, athletic front line.
Ahron Ulis – 2020 – G – Meanstreets
Uhlis was in control from the tip as Meanstreets dropped Drive Nation on Friday. The junior guard did it all in the win, posting 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Uhlis shot 9-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-5 from downtown. He was excellent late in shot clock situations, pulling the ball out, sizing up his man, and creating quality looks off the bounce. The mid-range game for Ulis was deadly. His crossover dribble and pull-up from 15-18 feet left defenders helpless as Ulis was putting an end to just about every Drive Nation run in the second half.
