At 6’3, 185-pounds, Hanna is long, rangy and brings plenty of bounce to the floor and has the ability to play above the rim. He is a slashing guard who can get to the paint and draw fouls. At the defensive end he is capable of locking down the opposing team’s best player and has the ability to block shots and rebound.
Hanna was a part of a team at Maize that went 24-1 and placed third in the Kansas Class 5A state tournament and says he learned a lot competing against the team’s ten seniors.
“ It was fun because of the success but hard to get a lot of time in the game, but. regardless, it was great practicing against Caleb Grill, Devon Koehn, Brandle Studevan, and Cade McGaugh everyday because it made me work everyday in practice,” Hanna said.
Hanna says he has enjoyed the experience of running with NLHA this spring and says it has prepared him for the future.
“I think we’ve been pretty successful this far and I love winning so winning basketball games is a lot of fun for me,” Hanna said. “Playing with the good players on my team and being in a position to play against good players on the Prep Hoops circuit has prepared me to play with and against good players this season.”
Hanna says he is spending the offseason working on his jumpshot, handle, and playmaking abilities.
“Taking and making jumpshots makes you a dangerous player and that’s the type of player i want to be — one who has to be respected and planned for,” Hanna said. “A quicker handle and playmaking abilities allow to create a shot for yourself and your teammates.”
A fan of NBA stars Kevin Durant, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard, Hanna says he looks to take something different away from each player’s game.
“As much as i’d like to hate him Kevin Durant and his smooth game and how he can just score at will,” Hanna says. “Giannis and his determination to get to the rim and win every game and Kawhi because his game is smooth and nice to watch he plays on both ends at a high level and the way he doesn’t show much emotion is something else I like
“I try to take Eurosteps and advanced ways and angles to penetrate the defense against, ways to use length, and overall drive from Giannis.”
While he has not yet drawn much attention from college programs, Hanna says he hopes to change that this summer.
