Standout Teams at Georgia Cup IV
Georgia Cup IV was held last weekend at Suwanee Sports Academy. Many teams left a great final impression with Georgia Cup Finals approaching in a few weeks. Here are the teams that stood out at Georgia Cup IV:
Atlanta Timberwolves 17u- The Atlanta Timberwolves had a fantastic showing at Georgia Cup IV. Even though they suffered a close loss to Dream Elite in the championship game, the Timberwolves proved themselves as one of the elite teams in the state. They are led by Nate Dunlop (Augusta Christian), Griffin Neville (Cherokee Bluff), and Brookes Kahlert (St. Pius). Standing at 6’6, Dunlop especially made an impression with his versality, shooting, and guard skills. Alex Elliot (Mount Paran) and Jack Kostel (Mill Creek) also made huge contributions for the Timberwolves.
Game Elite ELW 17u- Led by Christopher Newell (Walker) and unsigned senior Demetrius Davis (McEachern), Game Elite ELW is a very talented team. At the Adidas Gauntlet in Indiana last week, Newell averaged 25 points per game. He is a smooth point guard who shoots well off the dribble and gets to the basket with ease. In a win over New Level, he scored 20 points and Davis led with a team high 27 points. With his length and skillset, Davis should hear college coaches very soon. Noah Greene (McEachern) is also great addition to the team.
Atlanta Wolfpack 16u- Atlanta Wolfpack is a very well-coached team. They are fundamentally sound and take great care of the ball. Joakeim Celestine (Forsyth Central) and Dylan Carter (Forsyth Central) are standout players who not only score the ball, but also affect the game on the defensive end with their energy. A rarity during the AAU season, Atlanta Wolfpack impressed with their defense and ability to take charges throughout the tournament. With many of their players attending West Forsyth High School, they could make some noise in the future if they stay together.
Metro Elite 17u- Metro Elite is a very undersized but gritty team. They play hard at all times and focus their offense on driving the lane and kicking out to their shooters. Metro Elite is led by the hot shooting of Desmond McGill (Spalding) and Carter Hawkins (Griffin Christian). McGill heated up on Friday night and did not cool down. In a win over Game Elite ELW, he hit 7 three pointers for a game-high 27 points.
Team Northside 16u- Team Northside was another well-coached and well-disciplined team in the tournament. They have great team chemistry as many of their players attend Lovett High School. Collin Goldberg (Lovett) is a scrappy guard for Team Northside who attacks the basket and finishes very well at the rim. Landon Kardian (Holy Innocents’) is a versatile big man with great ball handling skills at his position. Kardian also has sneaky athleticism as he had few crowd-pleasing dunks throughout the tournament. Team Northside should make some noise at Georgia Cup Finals.
