This is a program that has received more and more attention as of recent due to their success on and off the court. The team barely missed the state tournament two years ago and made it last year.
One of those youth prospects is Isaiah Freeney Isaiah Freeney 6'0" | PG South Mountain | 2021 State AZ , a 5’11 2021 PG who plays with Compton Magic. Freeney has been a key contributor to the success of South Mountain over the last couple of seasons.
Despite his strong high school play, Freeney has not earned any offers and limited interest. Freeney is hoping that his high school talents will transfer to playing well for the Compton Magic.
Freeney is yet another in-state guard who has made the decision to play for an out of state club team in hopes of being in a better situation that will offered him the opportunity to play in college.
He is looking for a school that will provide him with a “background in law” and “a coach that builds my confidence on the court.” Further, he noted that location of the school might be a factor.
Freeney’s elusiveness and ability to score the basketball at a high level mixed with his 4.5 GPA make him an interesting prospect. If his first two years of high school are any indication of what is to come, Freeney will have no issues with playing in college due to academics.
At this point, Freeney is a balanced prospect who can create for himself as well as shoot it from deep. As he continues to improve his shooting percentages from long range, his ability to get into the paint will improve even further.
