Was rock solid with his consistency as a scorer and distributor. Got others involved with crisp dishes. Pull up jumpers and runners on point. Improving three point shot. Averaged 6.3 points per game. He spoke about the first weekend and what he is looking forward to this spring and summer with the Illinois Wolves.
“I am looking forward to growing as a team and keep playing together. Win UAA this year.”
Newby ran the show for a loaded Bloom squad that was full of highly ranked juniors.
“It was a lot of fun playing on that team with a bunch of elite players. We pushed each other and had a good year. I grew as a player being consistent putting the ball in the basket. Being able to guard multiple positions on the court whether it is the one, two, or three. Being versatile on defense is really what I improved on this year.”
How is recruiting going?
“Recruiting is going good. The main two schools talking to me right now are Tulsa and Toledo.”
Tulsa is making a push for him.
“I like the coaching staff. They contact me every day and send me positive stuff. They tell me to keep attacking and grinding.”
Toledo is the only school he has visited so far.
“I like Toledo. When I went down to visit it was very family oriented. I love the way they play, their coach, and the culture.”
What is the school that lands Newby getting?
“They are getting a true point guard. A pass first point guard that can also score. Lead on defense and lead on offense. A winner in general. A person that loves to win.”
The Bloom point guard currently sets at #28 overall and the #8 point guard in the PHI 2020 Rankings.
