He played JV his freshman and sophomore seasons, but was the starting point guard last season as a junior with the Cougars.
He’s now playing with Baltimore United, and recently took an unofficial visit to NJIT — he’s got plenty of other Division I interest too.
“I do have interest from NJIT, American, University of Denver, Robert Morris, George Mason, Coppin State, Loyola (MD), and one D2 Lincoln Memorial,” said Evans.
“The closest to offering would be NJIT and American. And I get a lot of mail from them both, and they’ve been reaching out the most.”
He says his recruitment is definitely a top priority for him right now.
“My recruitment is really the core part of everything because it’s my last AAU season,” said Evans. “I just want to really narrow it down and just prove who I can be.”
As of now he considers himself a knock-down shooter, who is capable of playing either guard position.
“I play really smooth and I’m a knock-down shooter. And I’m pretty confident in myself bringing the ball up the court. And I can handle pressure and get the offense set up and things like that. But I like playing off the ball too, because I’m an excellent shooter.”
Last winter during his junior season at Mount Carmel he was a starting guard, and says he relished the opportunity to elevate his game.
“I feel like I could have played better but last season was definitely a stepping-stone for me because my freshman and sophomore years I played JV,” said Evans. “And last year I felt it was my turn to step-up, and I was aggressive when need be, and a playmaker when need be.”
As he continues into his 17U summer, he’ll be playing with Baltimore United Red 17U, where he is the undisputed captain of the team.
“With the Red team I’m the ultimate leader. I get all my guys ready for games. And I’m the primary scorer, playmaker, and pretty much just do it all,” said Evans.
“I’m looking forward to proving to everybody that I can be that D1 guard this summer. And that I can be the guard that everybody wants, and I want to show everybody how I’ve improved over the last couple of years.”
