4 Perry high school took on 1 Pinnacle in the 7:30 pm game. Pinnacle looked very impressive, especially Nico Mannion. Mannion dropped over 40 points and led his team to a 10 point win over a very talented Perry team, 79-69.
6 Hamilton took on 2 Chaparral and this was the closer of the two games. Chaparral came down in the final minutes of the game to seal a victory and earn themselves a rematch with Pinnacle in the 6A State Finals!
This is going the be the 3rd match up for these two teams this season, as they are in the same region. In the first meeting, Pinnacle took the victory over Chaparral 86-70. In the second game, Pinnacle won 91-88.
The second game was a lot closer than the first and I think that is because it gave both teams more time to size each other up, create game plans, watch film, come up with a strategy, specifically benefiting Chaparral.
I expect a very close game in their final match up of the year. However, I think Pinnacle pulls out the win and wins their second straight state championship.
Championship game will be held at Well Fargo Arena – ASU @ 8pm Feb. 26
