Commitments
Semaj Henderson (Downers Grove North)
Ranking: #55
Commitment: Charlotte Basketball Academy (Prep)
A couple of top 100 prospects opted to go the prep route next season. This Downers Grove North senior is a physical scoring point guard that can get downhill and has potential as a jump shooter. He will reclassify to 2020 and attend Charlotte Basketball Academy next season.
Dylan Engler (Oswego)
Ranking: #90
Commitment: Link Year Prep
Engler is an athletic wing that had a strong spring and summer on the circuit. Followed that up with a consistent senior campaign stuffing the stat sheet. Engler informed PHI that he will be attending Link Year Prep in Missouri for an extra year to help prepare him for the college level.
Cody Mitchell (St. Charles East)
Ranking: #112
Commitment: Illinois Wesleyan
Mitchell has size on the perimeter as a jumbo small forward and can also play a small ball four at the next level. Plus shooter. He will be an outstanding player at Illinois Wesleyan with his versatility.
Adam Taylor (Providence Catholic)
Ranking: #142
Commitment: Joliet Junior College
Taylor is a 6’4” wing with a plus shot from the perimeter. Solid athlete that has pop in the open floor. He gave his commitment to attend Joliet Junior College.
Tyler Jowett (Mascoutah)
Ranking: #167
Commitment: Illinois College
Jowett is a skilled face up four that can stretch the floor with his shooting and has touch around the hoop. He told PHI that he has signed with Illinois College.
Lucas Heflen (St. Charles North)
Ranking: #194
Commitment: Illinois Wesleyan
IWU also picked up another commitment in this St. Charles North two guard. Size for position, plus shooter, and skilled passer.
Nate Ortiz (St. Charles East)
Ranking: #195
Commitment: Augustana
Ortiz is a big time catch and shoot threat for St. Charles East. Nice pick up for Augustana!
Chuck Sweat (New Trier)
Ranking: #200
Commitment: Swarthmore College
Sweat is a thin and wiry wing with some projectability. He can shoot it from three with a sweet looking shot off the catch.
Myles Thomas (Leo)
Commitment: Elmhurst College
Thomas is an athletic guard that is a late bloomer. Created some recent buzz and gave his commitment to Elmhurst College this past week.
Recruiting Updates
Bryant Brown (Waukegan)
Ranking: #23
Brown is one of the most productive uncommitted prospects in the state still on the board. The versatile combo forward has Waukegan up to a 22-4 mark and on a 10 game winning streak. Bryant told us he has a quartet of D2 offers from Florida Southern, Winona State, Lewis, and UW Parkside. He plans on taking some visits after the season. Other schools showing interest include Southern Indiana, Alabama A&M, Davidson, Young Harris, and Quincy.
Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington)
Ranking: #53
Donaldson has broken out as a senior. One of the better two way wings on the board with his slashing and defensive abilities. Donaldson has visited Kankakee CC. Olive Harvey and Goshen are also showing significant interest. Picked up his first D2 offer this past week from St. Cloud State.
Julian Barr (Lincoln Way East)
Ranking: #54
Barr is one of the more underrated shooters in the class. Lights out perimeter shooter told us that he has interest from Chicago State and Purdue Northwest. Illinois College and Judson are also in communication with him! He has already visited Judson and plans on visiting Purdue Northwest in the near future.
Demari Grant (Oswego East)
Ranking: #65
Grant is a quick twitched point guard with a killer mid-range game. He said the only two schools in communication right now are Sioux Falls and Clarke. He has already visited Clarke and is planning on another visit soon.
Aly Keys (Mascoutah)
Ranking: #88
Intriguing big man that moved here from Georgia impressed us early in the season with his length, athleticism, shot blocking, and overall potential. Keys tells PHI the schools that are recruiting him the most are Illinois College, Lindenwood Belleville, and UMSL. He plans on taking visits after the season.
Matas Masys (Willowbrook)
Ranking: #108
Possibly the best pure shooter in the class Masys tells PHI that he is down to a final two of MIT and Washington University in St. Louis. He has taken unofficial visits to both of them. Plans on making a decision sometime after his high school season concludes.
Austin Freeman (St. Patrick’s)
Ranking: #117
Freeman is a scoring guard who has posted impressive numbers in his final high school season. The St. Pat’s guard tells us the two schools he is in communication with are Illinois College and North Park.
Tommy Halatek (Lockport)
Ranking: #155
Halatek opened our eyes with his play at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Throwback back to the basket five man that can score on the block and rebounds great in area. He told us the schools he is in communication with are Loras, Eureka, North Central College, and Rockford University.
Connor Diecker (Freeburg)
Ranking: #165
This Freeburg wing is a sound perimeter scorer that has been making noise as a senior in southern Illinois. When it comes to recruiting Diecker tells PHI that Webster and Blackburn are showing the most interest and are at the top of his list. Brescia and Illinois College have also been in contact. He is on a visit to Brescia this weekend. Timeline for a decision is within a couple week after Freeburg’s season concludes.
Payton Havens (Metamora)
Ranking: #177
Havens is a heady point guard that is the heart and soul of Metamora. The senior has landed offers recently from a pair of JUCO’s in Illinois Central College and Carl Sandburg. NAIA schools in the mix include St. Ambrose, William Jessup, and Cardinal Stritch.
