It all starts and ends with the state’s top point guard in Morgan Park’s Ayo Dosunmu. The big time scorer can get buckets effortlessly as well as dish the rock and get after it defensively. After the Mustangs high major guard there is a tier of point guards that all have flashed potential D1 ability.
Floor generals that have shown they can run a team as well as scorer are rare. That’s what makes Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young) and Brandon Hurt (Marian Catholic) commodities at the mid-major level. Combo guards Amir Brumett (Decatur MacArthur), Marquan Williams (Perspectives), and Camron Donatlan (West Aurora) have the ability to play both on and off the ball effectively. Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook), Chase Adams (Marian Cathlolic), and Kendle Moore (Danville) each have the intangibles to play at the D1 level as we are closely monitoring their progress.
Some of my other favorite point guards that are worth monitoring at various levels include Ahmad Muhammad (St. Joseph’s), David Forrest (Foreman), Bailey Dee (Champaign Central), Sam Daniels (Fenwick), Brandon Simberg (Libertyville), Zach Ludwig (St. Charles North), and Sammy Green (Edwardsville).
