PG Mac McClung (Team Loaded)
Mac continues to impress us each time we see him, and this occasion was no different. Given the fact that the 6-foot-2 guard gets off the ground so high on his jump shot, it’s been refreshing to see a great deal of improvement in it since the high school season. It’s quite clear that the dynamic playmaker is a workaholic who spends hours in the gym, and will do whatever it takes to compete at the highest level. He’s picked up a couple of offers, most recently from Radford university. Look for more programs to be in for the young lead guard out of Gate City.
SG Brayden Gault (Team Loaded)
Brayden accurately scorched the nets from long range on championship Sunday. The hard-working, relentless 6-foot-4 guard has tightened up his handle. A go-to-scoring option for his team, Gault frequently pulled up in transition and cashed in from beyond the arc. His versatility offensively in the post was well noted as well. Defensively, he rebounded effectively out of his position, and was active and alert in help side situations. His division 1 potential is evident, and it shows by the recent interest he’s attracted.
SG Keldon Johnson (Boo Williams)
Keldon once again showed off his alpha dog traits for Boo Williams this weekend. Playing up in the 17U division, the 6-foot-6, 200+ pound sophomore made a huge statement and got whatever he wanted off the bounce. He got hot from the perimeter, and showcased the ability to pull up on a dime and hit from long range. Perhaps his most impressive attribute is his ability to rebound in traffic. That was evident as he elevated and used his length to help his team control the glass on both ends of the floor. His strength and touch enables him to absorb and easily finish through the contact which he seeks on his drives. He’s received recent interest from Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Louisville and North Carolina, and earned his most recent offer from Florida.
PG DeAndre Thomas (Team Richmond-Garner Road)
DeAndre has grown physically since the end of the high school season. The 6-foot-4 lead guard showed maturity and poise while playing up in the 17U division. He rebounded well out of his position, and did a nice job looking ahead for open teammates in transition. His perimeter jumper looked confident and consistent from the catch, and he showed craftiness and strength when attacking off the bounce. His division 1 potential is evident, and it won’t more than likely won’t be long before his recruitment starts to reflect it.
PF Aaron Cash (Team Loaded)
Aaron was a two-way impact player, given his elite length and high level athleticism. The long-limbed, 6-foot-7 forward was a solid rim protector who challenged shots vertically. He did a good job boxing his man out and ran the floor hard in transition. Offensively, he showcased nice footwork on the low block, along with a soft touch on finishes around the basket. Cash plays above the rim and thrives in the open court. Cash is still growing into his body and adding strength, but his division 1 credentials are quite clear.
