5A San Tan Overview: Standings & Standouts
We are a good portion of away through the season and I think it is time to look at some region standings and discuss what the potential future may look like for these regions/teams. Here is the 5A San Tan Overview:
Standings: As of 12/9/18
1. Gilbert 0-0 (Region) 3-0 (Conference) 4-0 (Overall)
2. Williams Field 0-0 (Region) 4-2 (Conference) 4-2 (Overall)
3. Campo Verde 0-0 (Region) 4-3 (Conference) 4-3 (Overall)
4. Casteel 0-0 (Region) 2-3 (Conference) 3-3 (Overall)
5. Higley 0-0 (Region) 1-6 (Conference) 1-6 (Overall)
6. Maricopa 0-0 (Region) 0-7 (Conference) 0-7 (Overall)
Top Players:
Jason Harris (Higley): Jason Harris is a very highly ranked player in our Prep Hoops rankings. He is currently averaging 18.9 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game, and 1.8 assists per game. He is the biggest weapon for that Higley offense, everything they do revolves around him.
Jaeden Bailey (Williams Field): Williams Field is a very well coached team and they play as one cohesive unit, making it very hard to pick one standout player. However, Bailey has done a great job this season, averaging 10 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game.
Griffin Lamb (Gilbert): Gilbert has come out of nowhere and surprised everyone. I haven’t heard much about this team but here they are, sitting at first and have beaten some very notable teams (Sunnyslope, Perry, and Basha). Lamb provides a lot of size and rebounding for this team, he stands at 6’8.
Projection
Gilbert has taken this region by storm and taken first place. They are on an absolute tear right now, beating some very notable teams. If they can keep up this level of play, they will run away with the region. If there is one team to compete with them, I think it is Williams Field. They are a very well coached team and play very well together, as one big cohesive unit. Jason Harris wins player of the year, for the region.
