November All-Sophomore Team
Sophomores are making an enormous impact already this season all across the state. With Courtney Asher Smith, Andrew Force cobbled together an All-Sophomore Team for November.
The Class of 2021 player rankings are also worth perusing. They currently extend to 150 players.
Kennedy Chandler (2021), PG, Briarcrest Christian
Kennedy is averaging 22 points per game for a very strong Briarcrest Christian basketball program.
Kennedy Christian is consistently contributing five apg and an astonishing five steals per game.
Jalen Brown (2021), 6’4” PG, Trezevant
From Memphis East to Trezevant Jalen Brown transferred. Ideally his role would grow with the new program. Even Jalen’s biggest supporters might not have imagined him beating the buzzer and Mitchell in his first two weeks at THS.
Brown’s lanky frame is no concern because his skills and court savvy outpace almost every sophomore in the state. Like Kennedy Chandler, Brown is unafraid of the moment.
Grant Hurst (2021), 5’11” PG, Cleveland
How is a sophomore from Cleveland’s deep team making so much noise? Shooting.
Grant Hurst scored 25 points in a monster overtime win over Keon Johnson’s Bell Buckle team. Fast forward to this Tuesday and Grant lead the team with 18 points, 13 of them coming in the second quarter.
Grant is fully recovered from an ankle injury that limited his late summer/fall play. Hurst can really shoot the basketball and is drawing a little D1 interest already.
James Madison inquired about the double-figure scorer. Eastern Washington, IUPUI, and East Carolina also know about Hurst’s potential.
William English (2021), 6’5” F, Maryville Christian
William English is a new player to us. He is averaging a strong 12 ppg with 8 rpg. English doesn’t play a particularly difficult schedule, but he is consistently dominating against the teams he does play.
Matthew Sells, 6’2” SG, Livingston Academy
The fifth best performer at the PrepHoopsTN Fall Combine, Matthew Sells deservedly lands on this All-Sophomore Team. Sells scored 30 the final Tuesday of November. After advancing to the Class AA State Tournament last season Sells is hoping to return.
Early wins for the Wildcats include Pickett County, Jackson County, Boyd Christian, and Hapeville Charter (GA).
Livingston fell to Dickson County, MBA, and Warren County. The scoring burden on Sells is tremendous again this season. Can he deliver?
