Brennen Bargesser: An Interview
Brennen Bargesser is a prospect who is making moves. He has played very well recently during scrimmage season and is putting himself on the map. Bargesser is an athletic point guard from Grass Lake. He can score, while efficiently guiding an offense. We caught up with Brennen Bargesser to talk about his game, this season, and more.
Question:
What is the biggest strength in your game?
Brennen Bargesser:
My biggest strengths are my speed and coachability on the court. I am very quick (being a track runner) and I am able to transfer that track speed onto the court, resulting in steals and fastbreaks. I am also very good at listening to and applying what my coach is saying. I’ve always been able to hear what my coach is saying and produce the results he wants and expects from me.
Question:
What are your personal goals this season?
Brennen Bargesser:
My personal goals this year are to start on Varsity as point guard, be efficient with my shooting, and be a threat to every team that I will play.
Question:
What goals does your team have this year?
Brennen Bargesser:
My team’s main goal is to win districts. If we start off really good, we will definitely shoot for conference, but our biggest focus is getting that distict’s hardware.
Question:
How have you been preparing for this season?
Brennen Bargesser:
I have done a lot this offeason to prepare for school ball. As starting on Varsity is one of my main goals, I have practiced everyday and pushed myself harder than ever before. Last year I came off the bench, but as a result of the work I’ve put in, I’ve gained a starting spot in scrimmages and practices this season. I’ve put up hundreds of shots per day in order to improve my shooting, as well as work with my dad (aka coach) on my shot. I’ve worked on two-ball dribbling and cone dribbling to strengthen my handles. I have also played one-on-one with my brother throughout the summer to work on moves and become more of a threat with the ball.
Question:
Is there a game on the schedule this season that you’re looking forward to?
Brennen Bargesser:
The game I am looking forward to most is against Hanover Horton Comets at our place on January 9, at Grass Lake High School. They have been the best team in our conference for years and are one of our toughest rivals. It would be amazing if we could pull out a win against the Comets at home.
Question:
What would you bring to a program at the next level?
Brennen Bargesser:
I will bring everything that I have right now with me to the next level: hard work, coachability, toughness, and unselfishness. I take a quote from my mom very seriously, “Be the hardest worker in the room.” I always push myself to the limits and then some, as that is the only way to improve. I will continue to listen to my coaches and apply what they are saying, as they know best and want me to be the best I can be. I will maintain my mental and physical toughness, as I am strong and not easily moved. I won’t back down from a challenge and I will not be overwhelmed by the hype. I will also bring my unselfish style of play to the next level. As a point guard, it is my job to distribute the ball and make the right decisions for my team. I will always put my team first and push my teamates to be the best they can be, so that we can excel together.
Question:
Who is the toughest player you’ve ever matched up with?
Brennen Bargesser:
I am not sure who the toughest player I’ve matched up with is, but the toughest group of players is Hanover Horton. They have great team chemistry, an amazing coach, and lock-down defense that makes it extremely hard to get an edge.
Question:
What’s your favorite subject in school and why?
Brennen Bargesser:
My favorite subject in school is math (besides PE of course) because I am very good at it. I excel at math and often help my peers, as I am one of the smartest students in my class. I like to problem solve and help others, which translates nicely onto the basketball court.
