Bishop England Preseason Tourney
Prep Hoops season started the basketball season this weekend down on Daniel Island in Charleston. Prep Hoops took in 4 games at Bishop England HS on Saturday morning and afternoon. Here is a brief breakdown of the games.
The Garrett Academy Falcons defeated Palmetto Christian 60-47 to start the games on the Saturday morning. The Falcons were led in scoring by Dal’nont Gourdine (2019) with 18 points. Gourdine a big-time football recruit has received plenty of football including the likes of Central Florida and Nebraska. EJ Gathers added 14 points in the win for the Falcons.
The Palmetto Christian Academy Eagles have a small roster just 9 kids and plenty of new faces. Maliek Brown who had scored 1,092 career points in 2 seasons is now at Wando HS. Head Coach John Harris will rely on Malachi Ancrum (2021), Cole Silvester (2019) and Kendall Chakeris (2021) this season. Ancrum led the way for the Eagles with 15 points, Chakeris 14 points and Silvester 11 points.
Pinewood Prep cruised in the 2nd game of the day over Charleston Math & Science 72-44. The Panthers were led in scoring by Ja-Saun Pryor (2019) with 25 points. Cohen Gaskins (2021) point guard added 16 points in the win while Ben Diffley (2019) chipped in with 7 points.The Panthers jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the 1st quarter and never looked back.
The Beaufort HS Eagles fended off a scrappy team from Low Country Leadership 55-49 for a victory. The Eagles were led by Trae Heyward. Heyward (2019) 5’8 point guard was key in the victory coming up with loose balls and key passes all day long. Heyward played the game with a fearless mindset.
Donnell Bowens (2019) scored 18 points in defeat for the Lions while fellow senior Greg Scott added 15 points.
The last game of the day the Bishop England Preseason Tourney featured Heathwood Hall vs the host Bishop England Battling Bishops. The Highlanders out of Columbia jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. Heathwood Hall won easily 49-27. Isaiah Caldwell and Cameron Carraway led the charge both with 15 points apiece unofficially.
The Battling Bishops just struggled all day long trying to score the ball. Taijon Simmons (2021) and Aidan McCool (2020) couldn’t get on track today vs the Highlanders.
