Region 6 – AAAAA Players to Watch (2019)
Region 6-AAAAA has a new look this season with the St James HS Sharks. The Sharks have moved up while the Sumter HS Gamecocks are staying closer to the Midlands this season. The Socastee HS Braves bring back the most experience along with the West Florence HS Knights. Lets take a look at the top seniors in Region 6-AAAAA
this season.
Kassius “Jay” Williams – Socastee HS (pictured on front)
Williams is back to lead the Braves this season. The Braves will have 4 senior starters on Head coach Derrick Hilton’s roster. Williams plays with a lot of swagger and confidence on the floor. Williams a point guard is never short on confidence and talking on the floor needs to keep it under control this season for the Braves to win the region. Williams has bounced around in the past but has seemed to find a home up on Hwy 707 in Socastee.
Jevon Griffin – Socastee HS
Griffin comes over to the Braves after playing his whole career at North Myrtle Beach HS in Little River. Griffin a left-handed spot up shooter averaged 12 ppg last season for the Chiefs. Griffin should benefit this season with a few more weapons to work with on the roster.
Marcus Moore – Socastee HS
Moore 6’8 is a player we have been talking about a lot since this Grassroots Season with the Confidence Cougars. Moore a late bloomer still has his best basketball in front of him on the hardwood. Moore runs the floor like a deer and has a 7’2 wingspan. Moore could have a breakout season this year for the Braves if given the ball in the paint.
Jonathan Wright – Socastee HS
Wright 5’9 makes shots from behind the arc. Wright has deep range on his shot and isn’t afraid to pull the trigger from 25 feet on the floor. Wright a undersized shooting guard brings a great toughness to the game.
Sabien Nero – West Florence HS
Nero is the leader of the Knights squad. Nero a left-handed guard is playing more point guard this season for new Head Coach Darryl Jarvis. Nero averaged 13.4 ppg and 4.8 rebounds last season for the Knights (14-13). Nero
Darius Dawson – West Florence HS
Dawson 6’5 moved into the area after playing last season in South Dakota. Dawson a military kid played extremely well last month at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in Myrtle Beach. Dawson will be a player to watch out for Newcomer of the Year in the Region. Dawson plays much bigger than his size on the floor. Dawson spent his FR/SO seasons in South Korea he told Prep Hoops.
Jarrod Woodland – West Florence HS
Woodland 5’8 really likes to set up shop in the corners on the hardwood. Woodland will let the ball fly from deep. Woodland averaged 6 ppg last season for the Knights.
Sharrod Simmon – West Florence HS
Simmon nicknamed “Miami” has been here for the past 4 years for the Knights. Simmon excels on the football field as a defensive back but brings a great toughness to the floor for the Knights. Simmon is a great role guy and a top notch defender on the hardwood.
Korique Rainey – South Florence HS
Rainey is one of the lone seniors on the Bruins roster. Rainey a multi-sport athlete plays baseball also for the Bruins.
Carolina Forest HS, Conway HS and St James HS have rosters dominated by underclassmen. Prep Hoops will take a look at those players in separate article.
