PREVIEW: Impact transfers (KC)
Some of the biggest transfers in Kansas this year isn’t about who is coming in, but who is leaving. Here we take a look at a handful of transfers who are both leaving the state, entering the state, and just plain, old-fashioned moving from one district to another.
Leaving
Zach Harvey, 6’5, G, 2019, Topeka Hayden to Prolific Prep
At last report Harvey was reclassifying to the 2020 class and attending Prolific Prep in California. He is coming off a strong offseason competing for KC Run GMC and had earned a spot atop the latest Kansas’ 2019 rankings. Harvey has drawn offers from a host of high major Division I programs.
Zane Meeks, 6’8, F, 2019, Shawnee Mission Northwest to Brewster
One of the state’s top stretch 4 prospects, Meeks is a standout 3-point shooter with a quick release and terrific range and put together a big offseason with KC Team Rush. He announced in late September his intentions to transfer to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. Meeks was ranked No. 5 in the last Kansas’ 2019 rankings.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, 6’8, F, 2019, Bishop Miege to IMG
Robinson is a talented big man who put together three big years on varsity at Bishop Miege. He is coming off a big offseason with KC Run GMC and held offers from a host of the country’s top programs, including Kansas, Arizona, North Carolina and several others. He was among the first to announce his plans to leave the state during the summer.
Entering the state
Michael Peake, 6’8, F, 2020, Kansas City Northeast (Mo.) to Blue Valley Northwest (Kan.)
This is a big time move that will impact basketball in the state this season. Peake was ranked fourth by Earl Austin Jr. in Missouri’s 2020 Class and he is every bit that type of player. Peake is big, athletic, can play above the rim and throw down dunks and block shots, but can also step away from the basket and do a lot of things. Peake handles it well for a big man, can shoot a little from the perimeter and has a good feel for the game.
Old fashioned moves
Jarrett Hensley, 6’7, F, 2019, Shawnee Mission North to Leavenworth
Hensley is a long, athletic forward with a developing skill set on the perimeter and the size and athleticism to play around and above the rim in the paint at both ends of the floor. He is coming off a strong offseason competing for MoKan Elite.
Markel Hood, 6’6, F/G, 2020, Shawnee Mission West to Blue Valley Northwest
Hood brings an intriguing mix of skill and junk yard dog attitude. He is a competitor, willing to do the little things that help a team win, but is also capable of doing the big things. He has good size for a wing, can handle the ball and shoot from the outside, but is a versatile and tough defender and is capable of doing a lot of different things well.
Jonathan Jackson, 6’4, G, 2020, Maranatha to Blue Valley
Jackson is among the state’s premier outside shooters and is ranked No. 2 in Kansas’ latest class of 2020 rankings. He has a smooth, quick shooting release and has the ability to move well off the ball and get open, but can also handle the ball well and create his own shot. He and 2019 big man Siler Tschirhart will form an imposing 1-2 punch.
