These rankings will take into consideration both the players next level abilities, but will be based mainly on who we believe will have the top seasons in 2018-2019. They encompass all classes outside of rising freshmen, and while it’s impossible to include every kid we did the best we could.
Here’s a look at the players ranked 5-1 in the Northern VA area, and stay tuned for more content of the same coming up soon.
- Editors Note: These rankings are based on where the kids are slated to play high school basketball this season.
5) Xavier Johnson | 6’1” PG | Episcopal 2019
The recent George Mason commit rounds out a good class for them but he’s not done in high school and has a chance to take Episcopal back to the state championship game that he won as a freshman. Johnson has a ton of moxy and he’s able to really score the ball while also keeping others involved. He can shoot from deep and is a tough and physical finisher in the lane, but he also has weapons around him this year and he’ll be looked at to lead and win if they’re going to be successful.
4) Marcus Dockery | 6’3” G | Bishop O’Connell 2020
Dockery’s my pick for the top incoming player in the WCAC this year. Last year at Roosevelt in Maryland, he was one of the top scorers in the area and he continued that with DC Premier this summer. A tough scoring lefty that can make shots from all over the floor, he has a smooth game where he understands and sees things before others, and he’s able to knock down shots with little to no room as well.
3) Anthony Harris | 6’3” G | Paul VI 2019
He recently committed to Virginia Tech, and good news for you Hokies fans Harris is likely going to be one of the best guards in the DMV. The definition of a two-way impact guy, Harris typically guards the best player on the other team and he can play both guard positions offensively. He’s a good drive-and-kick guy, he’s an improved shooter off the catch and he’s a strong finisher in traffic around the basket.
2) Qudus Wahab | 6’11” C | Flint Hill 2019
One of the most highly recruited big men on the east coast, Wahab had a terrific summer with WER1 out of Pennsylvania and was a standout at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. His sheer size makes him a big impact in the paint where he can finish above the rim and protect the rim defensively. He runs the floor like a gazelle, can shoot the midrange jumper, finishes on the block with both hands and plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor.
1) Jeremy Roach | 6’0″ PG | Paul VI 2020
One of the top guards in the country, Roach has made a big impact both in the WCAC and nationally in his first two years of high school basketball. He’s a dynamic guard with a ton of swagger, confidence, toughness and athleticism, and he’s the kind of kid who will go out and make a play when your team needs him to. Despite being just 6’0”, he finds a way to contribute in every facet of the game and it would be a shocker if he wasn’t the WCAC player of the year next year.
