The Race for Mr. Basketball: Fred Cleveland
In this series we take a look at the potential candidates for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois for this upcoming season. Here we profile Leo senior point guard Fred Cleveland.
Profile:
Cleveland had a monster junior campaign. The diminutive point guard won his division of the conference player of the year in the Catholic League last season. Long and angular guard that pushes the ball with his speed in the open floor and has deep range on his jump shot. We expect him to have a huge season!
Odds to Win:
25/1
Why He Can Win:
He will be one of the most productive players in the Chicago Catholic League this season. The senior guard will be running the show for a premier 2A squad that will be toward the top of those polls all season long! This is also one case where his size will help him as everyone loves watching the little guy doing big things! They will also be playing in the Washington TOC in central Illinois which will be a great kick off to his campaign.
Obstacles to Win:
One of the factors could be he isn’t a high profile “prospect” on the recruiting trail. While he is a big time high school basketball player he is only getting low-major and D2 looks on the recruiting side. These types of things usually help with name recognition outside of your base area.
