WCE Arizona All-Star Camp: Top 40 Game Standouts
West Coast Elite hosted their AZ All-Star Camp at the PHHacility and the venue was backed with great talent and figures in the basketball world. Players received some instruction and then were ranked. Here are my favorite players in the Top 40 Game:
Keaton Rodgers 6’5 (Sandra Day O’Connor 2019):
Keaton played very well at our Prep Hoops Top 250 event and really impressed me. This weekend, I knew I had to go see him and see if he could play at the same high level that he did at our event. Keaton did not disappoint. He has really improved as a shooter. If you do not close out with a hand up, he is going to knock down a three in your face. If you close out too hard, he will use his great strength and speed to get past you and finish at the rim. This makes him a very hard assignment to cover.
Phoenix Katz 6’7 (Sabino 2019):
Phoenix has always had the physical attributes to be a great player but never really reached the potential I saw in him. This weekend, I think he took a great step towards reaching that potential. Despite having great size, he actually moves very well, this should make him an effective wing at the next level. He looks like he has gotten in better shape and it shows on the court. His jumping ability, shooting ability, and defense all seemed to improve. Overall, a great improvement for Katz and I hope he develops further.
Zach Morgan 6’5 (Pueblo 2021):
While Morgan was listed at 6’5, I would bet that he is closer to 6’7. He has great size and extremely long arms. This has always put him at an advantage defensively. The big thing with him has always been a lack of athleticism and speed. However, he once again demonstrated his athletic improvements. He has gained some serious speed and movement. He used to be a liability if he got caught in a switch and had to guard the perimeter. Now, he is able to keep up with smaller players and continue his defensive dominance.
