2020 Sleeper Post Prospects
We finish our 2020 prospect breakdown with some of the sleeper big men in the state. Here are a few under the radar power forwards and centers heading into their junior campaigns.
Yves Nkomba (La Salette)
Nkomba might be the ultimate boom or bust prospect in the class. This near seven footer has size, length, and mobility at a young age. He is extremely raw offensively still. Flashes moves however slow. Defensively he has shot blocking potential and can run the floor.
Connor Linke (St. Charles North)
The St. Charles North 6’9” center played with a motor and edge that we haven’t seen in spurts during the spring. Legit size and strength on the interior. Played physical getting on the offensive glass for put backs and finished through contact. Can swat an occasional shot.
Brandon Lieb (Deerfield)
Lieb runs the floor extremely well for his size showing great mobility. He finishes strong around the hoop. Like his ability to score with his back to the basket. Defensively flashes shot blocking potential. Consistent production is the key.
RJ Ogom (Homewood Flossmoor)
This jacked 2020 undersized four man is a post that snatches rebounds in traffic with his strong hands. Finishes dump off passes with dunks. Solid post defender anchoring and contesting shots.
Colin O’Rourke (Plainfield North)
O’Rourke is at his best working from mid-range where his jumper is a major threat. Plus shooter from 15 to 18 feet that can also put the ball on the deck. Skilled forward that had a strong showing with Breakaway 16U during the July live period.
Jack Weber (El Paso Gridley)
This 6’7” post from El Paso-Gridley High School is powerful around the hoop finishing after garnering deep post position. Displayed some face up ability taking his man off the dribble on the baseline for the Illinois Irish.
Josh Preston (Geneva)
Preston who is an undersized four man for Geneva is one of those players that just knows how to get stuff done. The 6’4” forward has a nose for the ball seemingly always being around to make the right play. Efficient with his touches and is a very good offensive rebounder. Junk yard dog forward with some skill being able to pass and has a soft touch around the hoop.
Connor McCance (Oswego)
McCance came up huge in Breakaway’s victory over D1 Minnesota to close out July at Summer Challenge. The Oswego 6’8” center was extremely active on the glass playing with toughness around the hoop. The thick post also has some decent athleticism and skill around the basket.
Armon Williams (East St. Louis)
Williams is a long and rangy 6’7” power forward that is going to make major noise this upcoming season. He is still raw in some respects, but he is quick to the glass for second chance points and is an active defender with his length. Once he gets stronger he will be able to finish more consistently.
Jaccob Dust (Effingham St. Anthony)
Dust stands at 6’6” from Effingham St. Anthony. He is a tough and rugged kid that is an excellent area rebounder. Country strong kid that is powerful finishing through weaker big men. Efficient with his touches on the block and shows some skill down low.
