2020 PG Sleepers
Time to dive into sleeper prospects at the point guard position in the 2020 class. These are some players that might not get talked about as much, but have game!
Alec Millender (St. Rita)
Millender is a lead guard from St. Rita that works well in ball screen situations manipulating them and taking advantage of what the defense gives him. Slick handles in traffic gliding through defenders to the rim. Showed continued growth as a distributor kicking to shooters.
Jack Kahoun (Oswego)
Plus shooter from the perimeter with a clean looking stroke. Kahoun can really let it fly from beyond the arc with his sweet looking shot. Crisp ball handler that doesn’t wow you, but makes solid decisions.
Carter Dawson (Pontiac)
This Pontiac point guard might be one of the unsung prospects to watch in the class. First aspect that stands out is size for position at 6’4” for a lead guard. He plays with a high IQ and feel for the game especially in the half court. Works well in the pick and roll. Capable shooter from three. Looks like he will focus on baseball long term as he doesn’t play travel team hoops.
Michael Osborne (Proviso East)
Osborne is a point guard from Proviso East that does a nice job of running the show at the point. He finds his spots to score as he isn’t a ball dominant lead guard. Osborne connects on pull up threes and a scoop shots.
Connor Glennon (Brother Rice)
Glennon is a hard-nosed lead guard from Brother Rice that is the definition of a fiery leader! Everything this guard does is crisp and with a purpose. Sound shooter both with one or two dribble pull ups. Also can hit spotting up. Quality passer that makes smart decisions with the ball.
Joey Tianen (Niles Notre Dame)
The 2020 PG handles it well. Crisp passer that made several outstanding dishes in the lane when we saw him in the spring. Tianen showed the ability to stretch the defense with his perimeter shot as well.
Luke Ervie (Freeburg)
Ervie is a player that we see quite a bit during the high school season at Freeburg. Not an overly explosive player he knows how to use angles, is crafty in the lane, and plays tough as nails. He makes a lot of gritty plays in the lane rebounding well from his guard position. Passes it setting up his shooters. Finishes around the hoop and hits jumpers.
Shaun Harris (Orr)
Harris is a slick handling lead guard with some length to his game. He has bounced around travel teams and played only sparingly for Orr last year, but is definitely one to track this upcoming season!
Grant Niego (Lyons)
Unfortunately Niego will be sidelined probably for this season with a serious injury that he suffered in the summer. This Lyons Township 6’1” point guard is a leader at the point guard position. Gets others involved with his passing particularly in the half court. Capable jump shooter.
Dakoda Joachim (Joliet Central)
He is a smaller left handed point guard that that knows how to run the show. Joachim does an outstanding job getting others involved and playing with pace. Works well in the pick and roll. Gets in the lane consistently. High IQ guard that can also score a little. Best using a pull up jumper from 15-18 feet.
