Prospect Spotlight: Luke Goode (2021)
Homestead is one of those teams in the state that is so solid year in and year out. They haven’t lost double-digit games in ten years and have six sectional titles in the last seven years. Much of that success was due to Caleb Swanigan, a player who now plays for the Blazers. But, looking ahead to this year there may be a new stud roaming around Homestead. Luke Goode, is coming off an outstanding freshman campaign and over the summer has elevated his game to another level. After a great summer AAU season, the 6’5 small forward is looking to compete and help lead Homestead to another deep postseason run.
Goode is a guy who will set the tone for Homestead this upcoming year. He has filled out a little bit more but still has a little bit to go in order to fill out his frame completely. He can score very effectively on both the outside and inside. He’s getting better defensively which is already a spot that he is pretty good at. Goode looks to harass everyone that he plays and he can set the tone of the defensive end for his whole team. He is much more advanced than most freshmen in the state with his ability to be such a complete player at this point in his development.
Due to his development, and his play this spring and summer, Goode has already received a D1 offer. IUPUI pulled the trigger earlier this summer and he is also receiving interest from other D1 schools. Last month he visited Purdue on an unofficial visit and will visit Butler later this fall. Goode took a visit to IUPUI last year before they offered him. Goode is a very lucrative option for D1’s in-state as there aren’t many high end options at the small forward position. There are quite a few really good players, but none that really standout from the others. Goode has as a good of a chance as anyone to get his name to the top of the list this year.
Goode is able to knock down the outside shot as well as get into the paint and score. He plays freely and looks to make the right plays. This summer, Goode said that he really enjoyed playing for the Indy Heat program where he felt like they played some great competition. The biggest thing that he worked on over the summer was his defense. Goode wants to get the point where he can be the guy that locks down the best player on the opposing team.
Goode has an outstanding basketball IQ and he thinks that it is something that separates him from the other players on the floor. His basketball IQ allows him to make decisions with and without the ball that other players don’t see coming. This IQ helps him get a step on his opponents to steal the ball or score. He also mentions his unselfishness with the basketball as something that sets him apart from other players. Goode is always looking to make the extra pass to get his teammates clean shots.
This upcoming year, Goode is looking to help lead his team to another sectional championship. He mentions that as usual the team will be underdogs but their coach will put them in a spot to be successful. Coach Chris Johnson is heading into his 25th year of coaching, 20 of which have been at Homestead and he is looking to make this year another successful year. Goode seems to believe in Johnson and with their leadership, sky is the limit for Homestead. Watch out for Goode to break out in the northern half of the state this year.
