Program Awards: Fundamental U
Now that the travel team season has wrapped up we dive into programs across the state looking at their teams in a variety of categories in our Program Awards! Today we examine Fundamental U!
Program MVP
Jayden Johnson (Batavia)
This Batavia rising junior wing just has that “it” factor. The top 10 in-state prospect is a scoring machine, but he is deserving of the program MVP for more than just that. He is the player that elevates those around him like very few players in the state. Team first kid that wants to win!
Top 2019 Prospect
Spencer Boehm (New Trier)
Boehm is a skilled power forward from New Trier that knows how to play the game. He scores with his back to the basket from the block, but can also take his opponent on the perimeter at times. Solid area rebounder. Nice combination of skill and toughness.
Top 2020/2021 Prospect
Jayden Johnson (Batavia)
Johnson is one of the best scorers in the state’s 2020 class. This Batavia small forward is a plus shooter that has range to well beyond the three point arc. Can also create his shot with a crafty handle where he likes to operate in the mid-range. Rebounds well for a wing.
Sleeper
Luke Scheffers (St. Charles North)
Scheffers is a high IQ point guard that ran the show for the very successful Fundamental U 16U squad. His job was to get everyone involved and that is exactly what he did. Plus passer with a feel for finding others. Sound perimeter shooter as well.
Biggest Stock Riser
Connor Kochera (St. Viator)
This 2020 small forward from St. Viator broke out in the spring and continued that momentum into the fall. He is a versatile wing that brings it on both ends of the floor. Defends multiple positions. Offensively he can slash, get out in transition, and hit open shots. Does a little bit of everything!
