Recruiting Report: Marcus Libman (2020)
Pinnacle is the team to beat in 6A. With that said, there are plenty of competitors who are eager for their chance to show that they are the team that can beat Pinnacle. While that will be a daunting task, there is one question that seems to be looming large for the returning state champs: Who will replace Spencer Rattler?
Rattler, a top tier football prospect who has made the decision to forgo his senior year of basketball, brought the team athleticism and toughness. This team has plenty of talent and experience with Nico Mannion, Trent Brown, and Jordan Mains being mainstay returnees. Further, there is a lot of intrigue with big man Tosh Baker.
However, that spot is up for grabs with 2020 PG/SG Marcus Libman being a viable option to take over that starting spot. Libman, who stands at about 6’1, has a great feel for the game and makes his teammates better. He makes the simple plays and locks up on the defensive end. He seems to be a great fit for this spot and a potential college basketball prospect.
Marcus Libman College Interest
By the end of this season, Libman will most likely be considered one of the top two sport athletes in the state. He is an extremely skilled WR in addition to a skilled basketball prospect. While he is talented in both sports, he has not received any offers at this point.
However, he has received interest and invites to a number of different elite camps. During the club season, Libman plays with Factory which afforded him the opportunity to play on some of the top courts. Thus, aiding him in generating exposure.
In addition to being an intriguing prospect due to his skill set and athleticism, Libman has kept every door open for himself due to his dedication to the classroom. He carries a 4.1 GPA and noted that he is interested in business.
When asked about what he is looking for in a prospective school, it was a simple answer: “Sports and academics.”
Marcus Libman College Projection
Libman is an intriguing prospect who demonstrated that he can play at a high level this past spring and summer. At times, he was the glue that kept the Factory together due to his high basketball IQ and ability to put guys in spots where they can be successful.
Further, he looked more confident in July in terms of attacking the rim and shooting it from deep. He was a ball dominant guard who facilitated for others. That will most likely not be the case this season with Pinnacle as Mannion will have the ball in his hands for the majority of the possessions. It will be interesting to see how Libman does in more of a shooting guard role.
Libman’s ability to be a combo guard could provide him with versatility and upside that is intriguing to next level suitors. Further, he brings good strength and a winning mentality to the floor. At this point, Libman is best suited as a mid to high NCAA Division-II or NAIA Division-I prospect.
He might be one of the state’s most skilled 2020 prospects whom many do not know about. Look for him to play a huge role in Pinnacle’s success this upcoming season.
