Top Backcourts in 5A
Arizona has shown that it has some amazing talent at all levels and all positions. 5A is especially loaded and that talent comes from the backcourts of these great programs. Here are the Top Backcourts in 5A:
1. Apollo (Paris Woods/Emmanuel Taban)
Apollo has a nice mix of experience and potential in their backcourt. Woods averaged 11.4 points on varsity as a freshman, while Taban averaged 17.4 points per game as a junior. With an entire summer to improve and grow both as individuals and as teammates, I think they are the top backcourt in 5A. This duo will lead their team into state championship title contention this season.
2. Millennium (Justus Jackson/DaRon Holmes)
This backcourt is made out of two sophomores. While Holmes stands at 6’8, he has the skill set to play guard and was shown playing the guard position many times this summer with Powerhouse Compton 15U. Last season, Holmes averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Look for him to increase those numbers significantly this season. Jackson turned in a solid freshman campaign as well, averaging 12.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. The potential with these two is incredible.
3. Ironwood (Bailon Black/Dominic Gonzalez)
This is another young duo with a ton of potential. Black has shown the ability to shoot the ball at a high rate but most importantly, he has shown a great IQ running the point. This pairs up nicely with Gonzalez, who averaged 15.9 points per game last season. He is one of the best shooter in 5A and with the combination of Black’s IQ and Gonzalez shooting ability, it easily lands them on this list.
