Top Point Guards from the Summer Challenge
This list is compiled from the players I watched this weekend. The prospects that scored, passed, and played defense from the Point Guard spot made the list!
Nathan Shockey 2020 Breakaway Basketball Point Guard
Shockey plays with great wisdom at the Point Guard spot. The way he attacks the basket with success leads to him scoring the basketball well in the paint. It also opens up the offense for his teammates with the vision he has and passing ability to hit his teammates in the perfect spots. Shockey is a great competitor. He is going to make a good small college Point.
Jaeden Zackery 2019 Kessel Heat Point Guard
Zachery was a dynamic Point Guard this weekend that truly made everyone around him better. He uses crisp on-point passes to seemingly put the ball right where it needs to go. He has a nice handle that allows him to withstand any pressure the defense applies. Zachery is probably best described as a solid force. Zackery excelled at driving to the hoop making plays happen off the bounce. He also has a dagger three-point shot he can go to but did not shoot a ton just the perfect amount. Zachery was one of if not the best player in the 17U bracket.
Troy Dobbs 2020 D1 Minnesota Point Guard
Dobbs is a dawg at the Point Guard spot bringing energy, toughness, and high IQ basketball plays to the floor. He puts everywhere in the place they need to be to set everyone up for success and is great at executing the game plan. Dobbs is also a good shooter with a quickness that makes his drive tough to stop. When he gets hot from three-point range lookout on multiple occasions he knocked several three-pointers down in a row. Dobbs has the potential to be a Low to Mid Major NCAA Division I prospect.
Isaiah Davis 2020 Victory Ministry Point Guard
The strength of Davis and build is of a strong football player, which is fitting considering he is a two-sport star. Davis playing at the Point gave his team good ball handling, vision, and the ability to score at all three levels. To break down the defense Davis did a great job of finding his off the dribble to the basket. He has a nice hesitation dribble along with great strength that helps him to finish. Davis hit big three-pointers to stretch the defense when they began to sag off. He is going to be a good small college prospect.
Zach Vaia 2019 Breakaway Point Guard
Vaia has some swagger and game at the Point Guard spot. He is super quick with a low dribble and can get to his spot anytime he wants to. The quick pull up of Vaia was outstanding throughout the weekend. He threw his defender for a loop having to account for his quickness and proceeded then to knock shots down with any space. Another area he was outstanding at was passing the ball crisply right to his teammate in the perfect spots. He will make a really nice small college Point Guard.
Ryan Jacobson 2020 Kessel Heat Point Guard
Jacobson had a solid weekend for Kessel Heat helping them to a deep run in the consolation bracket. He initiated the offense opening things up with his quick drive. On defense, he made an impact jumping in the passing lanes for easy steals and transition baskets. Jacobson will make a solid small college prospect.
