West Coast Elite Summer Classic (2020/21 Stockraisers)
CLAREMONT, CA—The 2nd NCAA allotted evaluation period is over and it’s off to Las Vegas. But before we get into that conversation, Ryan Silver launched his West Coast Elite Summer Classic and there was a bevy of “West Coast” talent from California, Utah, Washington, and Oregon to feast our eyes upon.
Ryan Evans (Mater Dei) Club: Big Red
2020, SG, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds
Joel’s Take: Evans has always been known as a shooter. However, there are other aspects of his game that are coming together as well. Yes, the shot is still coming up golden, but now his passing, cutting, and finishing ablity are improving as well.
Mason Hooks (Harvard-Westlake) Club: BTI Select
2020,C, 6-foot-9, 255 pounds
Joel’s Take: Hooks is a big-bodied 5-man with a strong upper body, good hands, and he plays with physical. His foot work is solid, but he needs to continue to bend his knees more to keep him more balanced whiler operating on the block. Due to his shooting touch out to 19-feet, he is one of the more intriguing prospects in Southern California.
Leo Colimerio (Wasatch Academy/UT) Club: Mountain Stars
2021, SG, 6-foot-7, 195 pounds
Joel’s Take: The ultra-talented wing out of Utah can impact the game in a number of areas. He is an explosive athlete that can finish at the rim or knock in the jump shot. He plays with a good motor and is a willing rebounder and defender for his positon. Continueing to improve his face-up skills (triple threat game) will help his development.
Daron Holmes II (Millennium/AZ) Club: Powerhouse Hoops 15 Compton
2021, PF/WF, 6-foot-7, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: Holmes has that prototypical power forward frame with long arms and broad shoudlers. He is a quality athlete who possesses good quickness and bounce. He gets most his points off of put-backs and rim-running finishes. However, he can score in the paint due to his motor and instincts.
Jadon Jones (Cantwell Sacred Prep) Club: WCE 16U UAA
2020, SG, 6-foot-4, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: The slick lefty can get buckets in a hurry. He has a rangy frame with a nice dose of quickness and speed to his arsenal. In transition he can slash his way to the rim for the bang out, nail the pull-up, or whip a pass to an open teammate. He needs to improve his half-court scoring skills (jab step, etc.) as well as his right hand, but he is a talent.
