Recruiting Report: Nehemiah Benson (2020)

Skilled forwards are at a premium and 6'6"-6'7" Nehemiah Benson (2020) is one of the best prospects in that category amongst Ohio's juniors-to-be.

Following a sophomore season where Benson transferred to Lutheran East and made it to the State Final Four, Benson has picked up his first offer from Air Force.

Additionally, Benson is drawing interest from a number of Division I programs. The buzz has picked up after staying busy with Lutheran East in June by going to various elite camps and shoot-outs across the state and beyond.

Specifically, the versatile offensive weapon is being looked at by Michigan, Dayton, Miami (OH), Youngstown State, Akron, Toledo, Holy Cross, Princeton, Cornell, and Charleston.

Benson's recruitment spark has been ignited by old-fashioned hard work and a passion to hoop in college. He tells us that since transferring to Lutheran East, his work ethic has bumped up and he's now working out upwards of three times a day. In terms of skills, Benson is dedicated to expanding his skill-set into a more combo forward type package.

During high school seasons paxssed, Benson resemebled more of a traditional big man. He got up the court in a hurry, but it was mostly post-ups and rebounds where he shined.

However, with Hard Work White in the grassroots season, Benson can be found hitting pull-up jumpers and getting separation on the perimeter with his handle, pump fakes, and jab steps that opposing forwards can't defend.

Expect his advancements in versatility to begin showing itself next year with a new-look Lutheran East ball club. They graduated Jordan Burge - a team leader and incoming freshman guard to Ashland - so there are holes to fill. But the combination of Benson and his new frontcourt partner, 6'7" sophomore Jaiden Billingsley, will provide an opportunity for the Falcons to rebound immediatedly. The two will feed off each other by playing high-low and dominating mismatches.
