Prospect Spotlight: Wesley Rosa (2019)
A two-sport standout from Foothill, 6-foot guard Wesley Rosa still hasn’t made up his mind yet whether he’ll play basketball in college, or soccer.
If he has a big July, and some hoops recruitment comes in, it could be basketball he goes with.
As of now, the rising senior hasn’t seen any recruitment come in for either sport. He’s hoping that changes very soon.
It’s his ability to to shoot it, and play tough on both ends of the floor that he’s hoping generates some college hoops looks.
“I think I’m a great shooter on the floor and I can play both sides of the ball,” said Rosa. “I try and be a great teammate, I’m a hustle player and I do things that don’t show up in the stat book.”
Rosa came off the bench for Foothill last season as a junior. He’s looking forward to seeing his role increase next season.
“I was just basically a shooter last season, now we’re going to need a couple more ball-handlers. And I’m going to need to shoot the ball more consistently and get to the rack and help with rebounding,” said Rosa.
Ahead of his senior season with the Falcons, Rosa will be spending the remaining of his summer with Las Vegas Punishers 17U.
“I’ve been working on scoring it well and I’ve been trying to work on my shot off the dribble and trying to get faster; also lateral quickness and being more aggressive on defense,” said Rosa.
“Hopefully, I can get an offer, or as much interest from coaches as I can, and just show them how I can play.”
As for the basketball vs soccer question: he’ll play whatever sport he’s wanted at, wherever he’s wanted at.
“I’m still undecided between soccer and basketball. I don’t have any schools looking at me currently for either sport, though,” said Rosa.
“Whatever school is better for me, is what sport I’d choose.”
