GASO WICHITA: Kansas Top Glue Guys
Prep Hoops takes a look at several standouts from Wichita this weekend.
The Great American Shootout Midwest wrapped up play on Sunday at Wichita Hoops Facility in Bel Aire, Kan. with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of bracket play.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several Kansas players who played their roles well throughout the weekend.
33 — Jarin Koehler, 6’6, F, 2019, El Dorado, River City 17U Black
A 6’6 wing, Koehler brings a unique combination of size and skill to the floor. He can handle the ball a little and showed the ability to knock down step-back jumpers, get to the basket and was solid on the boards for River City Black.
11 — Ian Liechti, 6’4, F, 2019, Rose Hill, River City 17U Black (pictured)
Liechti is an active forward with good length who brings activity to the floor. He is most comfortable at the offensive end of the floor operating along the baseline and had a lot of success on the offensive glass throughout the weekend.
25 — Nolan Veenis, 6’3, G, 2019, Maize South, River City 17U Blue
The ultimate glue guy, Veenis is a hard nosed kid who does a little bit of everything well for River City. Veenis defends multiple positions, whether it’s a guard or a big, can shoot from the outside, and does a good job of being active at the offensive end.
31 — Devin Walker, 6’9, F/C, 2019, Ulysses, NLHA 17U
Walker has a smooth mid-range shooting, can step out the the 3-point arc and shows good forma and balance on his shooting stroke from distance. He is a big man with terrific agility, the ability to move his feet, protect the basket defensively and runs the floor exceptionally well. He is in the mix with several talented big men on NLHA who all seem to split a lot of playing time.
24 — Jacob Weber, 6’2, G/F, 2019, Winfield, River City 17U Black
Weber had a terrific weekend in Wichita, putting together one of the better individual performances we saw. He is a strong athlete who plays much bigger than his listed 6’2 height and brings toughness to the floor. On Saturday, Weber operated a lot out of the high post against SA Arnold Elite’s zone defense and showed the ability to knock down mid range shots and make smart decisions and passes against the zone, finding several open players along the baseline for easy buckets.
